Element ELGFT554 Bad TCON Board or Tab Bond Issue? Advice?

    Good evening everyone,

I have an cheapie Element ELGFT554 (actually my third of the same model, all of which have failed spectacularly within 2 months of purchase or warranty replacement in the following manner:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smqpIVQRQX8

Everything ive seen indicates this is a tab bond, or bad TCON board issue.

I have disassembled my TV down to the bare boards and tab bonds, but need a little advice at this point.

The problem is very unpredictable and intermittent, sometimes occurring straight for 3 hours, and then ceasing, sometimes occurring every 30 seconds. The one constant appears to be a brief cessation of errors when unplugged for a long period.

This leads me to believe my problem is heat related. This is to a degree confirmed by the fact that i have had it running, with a signal piped to it without the metal shield and case on it for about 2 hours now, and not a single glitch.

Enough talk, on to the pictures:

    edit: please see attachment files

I have some berquist gap pad per this guide: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25371

But my tab bonds appear to connect differently.

    So, here are my questions:

    1) Where should i place the gap pad on the tab bonds on my set? I will do all the tab bond, although it is likely only one or two that are currently bad.
    2) I looked for bulging caps, did not see any immediately, what else should i check for on the boards. I am proficient with a multimeter and can solder.
    3) How can i tell who made this panel/boards? I know Elements are rebrand for the most part, im thinking it might be a funai, but i cant find any branding

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for your patience.

Just measured the tab bond temps with a laser thermometer, im running a little high, at 130F without the metal chassis on. I imagine when enclosed, that could shoot up to 190-200F

Please edit your post and use file attachment to upload the pictures instead of posting them in line, it takes a long time to load the page, thanks.
By the way, do not run the panel without the frame back place since the chips use the frame as heatsink or you damage the chips.
Those chips can be as high as 155F.

Fixed the attachment files (sorry about that!)

Turned the panel off. Temps were slowly rising (in the 130s), wont run it without the metal shield again.

Applied gap pad to all the tab bonds, and the display driver chip on the TCON board. Put the whole display back together. Within 20 minutes, its flashing again

Same frequency and variation as before.

The fact that i have had three of these sets fail, each with the same mechanism leads me to believe either the bonds are already damaged (why the intermittence then?) or that theres a common part failure on the TCON board on all three.

Initial visual inspection indicated the TCON and other boards were ok, no obvious damages. High Res images of all boards attached for reference in case anyone is interested in taking a look.

The tricky thing is, when it was out of the chassis, it ran fine for upwards of two hours. When its in the chassis, failure within 20 mins. This leads me to believe heat is somehow an issue.

            Ideas?

It looks to me like 12V to T-con is unstable, have you checked that? I would be surprised if the tab bonds caused this.
