    dell altitude d400 usb issues

it appears the usb controller on my dell latitude d400 has died. the ports have power but fedora and windows both do not detect anything when it is plugged in.

any fix other than a new mainboard?

by the way, bios reflashing did not fix it

could someone fix the title? it should be latitude, not altitude.

No other option that I'm aware of. Unfortunately, it's all too common to see failed USB ports on 855 mobile and 865 desktop chipsets. Seems they're overly sensitive to something and just die out. Other system functions don't seem to suffer, just dead USB ports...

Interesing. I've never seen one go bad on an office full of D800 810 820 and 830s.
I've seen them shut off due to static (it's drrrryyyy here in the winter), but come back after a power cycle.

Re: dell altitude d400 usb issues

i opened it up and removed the offending board.

it appears there are 2 revisions of my board. one has a socketed bios, one does not. luckily, both the one i might grab and my board both have non-socketed bios... just means the service tags won't match, thats all.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Dell Latitude 5431 issues with dumping bios
                by Sathsul
So, i kinda spend significant ammount of the last couple of days trying to flash a new bios, and or unlocking the current bios password with little to no results.
The whole thing started with it being the 8fc8 bios, i found the tools to unlock that but i needed a bios dump. So i pursued that, im at a point where i dessoudered the chip, and succesfully soudered it to the ch341, dumped whatever was on it.
However, the tools supposed to unlock the 8fc8 say that there is no 8fc8 hex inside. And when i followed diffrent tutorials to just flash a new bios onto the chip i got stuck on the...

                Dell 3100 Chromebook Power issues
                by JKetcham
Hello, wanting to see if anyone has any experience with Dell 3100 Chromebook's and might have some input on an issue I've been seeing with them.

I work in Technology for a good size school district, and we've began to switch away from Lenovo Chromebooks over to Dell 3100. I like the Dell 3100's because they seem to be more durable than the Lenovo N22's, N23's and 100e's we've used in the past.. but my main complaint with them is they randomly won't turn on.

Currently, in my building I have about 200 students using the Dell 3100's and daily I have a rash of students...

                Dell XPS 15 7590 - Part 2 - USB power issues
                by coputerdiscount
So back on my first post I had a water damaged Dell XPS 7590 which I was able to repair:
Dell XPS 15 7590 - Powers via USB-C but not AC (missing PS_ID?) - Badcaps

Which leans me into a new problem I wanted to start a new thread with.

This machine now has issues powering or taking power (usb-c/lightning) via its USB ports.

Symptoms: When a dock is attached, it tends to short out devices attached and does not function, when using a USB A port elsewhere on the laptop, they notify windows of a surge and tend to power cycle the attached device.
