    Dell E177FPf chirps

I've taken the unit apart and can clearly see at least 4 caps are bulging. I have not replaced those yet because I am curious about an observation I made.

When the ribbon cable to the LCD is plugged in the power light blinks and there is a chirping sound that repeats at each blink (sound like a friendly version of a movie laser blast almost). With the ribbon cable unplugged the power board will turn on solidly. Should I start by replacing the bulging caps or is the chirp problem likely something else?

I'm not sure what voltages, etc to check but I've read the notes from the other E177FPf thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...hlight=e177fpf

I'm showing solid voltages across U850 and U802 the amount of which of course depends on which pins are checked.

*If you reference the picture the bulging caps are C864, C869 (470uf 25v), C862 (1000uf, 25v), C1 (220uf, 25v). 864, 869, & 862 are the three barrel caps straight up from the big blue 450v cap. The other is on the left side.

Start by replacing ALL the caps first. I count 10 capacitors not including the big one. The big one rarely, but not never, fails.

Since 4 out of the 10 caps obviously failed, it would not be a stretch to think the other 6 are near their useful life.

Caps don't have to be bloated to be bad. They can be out of uF tolerance (1000uF measures 25 uF) or have high ESR (ohms). Caps also dry out from heat.

Use low ESR caps from this list ...

You can buy them from here to support this site or big distributors like digikey, mouser, etc.

In the days of the caveman: bulging caps BAD!............new caps GOOD! Seriously, replace ALL the caps except for the large 450V? one (unless it's bulged or leaking) with low-esr ones like Panasonic FM or FC series available through digikey.com if you're in the USA. It should also remedy the chirping unless there are other problems you didn't mention.

I don't mind buying from here and supporting the site but I can find all but 6 to buy from here. There are 12 barrel type caps on the board (two under glue). It seems like a waste of money to buy from two places since I'll have to pay shipping twice.

        The items I can't find from badcaps are 47uf 16v, 10uf 50v.

I agree with paying shipping twice. Get them for digikey or mouser. They are likely to have all your choices.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
            by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

            Denon AVR-X2000 mainboard caps bulging
            by re-atari
I have been using a Denon AVR-X2000 receiver in my living room for several years now, works perfectly, am very pleased with it. Recently I acquired another one, advertised as defective with flashing red led a few seconds after switching on. Picked it up to try repair and use in hobby room. After switching on, the on/off indicator led indeed initially flashes green for about 2 seconds, during which the display is visible, and then starts flashing red (at 2Hz) with a switched off display.

I'm afraid the service manual is too large to upload here (55Mb), it can be found at https:/...

when i press the power, fan goes full speed, power button lights up , and caps lock light is on, the screen polarises, goes dark,no backlight...All voltages present, except PL4701, but that's probably for GPU power later....

I've tried a few dumps from posts, it always acts the same, so i thin it's not a bios issue...

No shorts found on the board...

            What should i try next?

            Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
            by eryjus
            Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
            by Paxman_Swede
            Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...
