    LG LCD 37LC2D - diagonal/fuzzy lines

    HISTORY
    =======

    This is my friend's LG 37 inch LCD TV 37LC2D. It was made around Sept 2006. It has been working fine until recently when the display started looking like the picture attached when watch cable TV.

    MEASUREMENTS
    ============

    None. I do NOT have access to this TV to take any voltage measurements. The TV is at his house and I don't live close to him. He doesn't have a multimeter and does not know much about electronics.

    PICTURES
    ========

    I convinced him to open up the TV and take pictures. He works night shift and sleeps during the day so the pictures aren't the greatest, but I see no bloated caps and neither does he.

    SERVICE MANUAL
    ==============

    The symptoms of the TV look like page 22, but unfortunately, I can't do any of the troubleshooting steps outlined. Manual is at



    QUESTION
    ========

    So given the lack of access to the TV, what would be your best guess as what is wrong? And yes, I realize this is a "garbage in, garbage out" scenario. He may consider re-opening up the TV and letting me have a more in depth look at a future date.

    edit: I'm hoping this TV is old enough that people have dealt with this issue before?

      The first line raises a question. You said the problem occurs "when watch cable TV". How about when they are using one of the other inputs? What do the menus look like?

          He just tested a DVD and says the problem exists as well. He then went on to test all inputs and the same thing. He doesn't use his DVD much, just watches cable TV sports.

          The lines also appear when the TV menu setup button is pressed.

          He says sound works fine, but lines cover the rest of the screen. He can make out shadows of people (like sports desk commentators).

                  Thanks PlainBill. That is what I was thinking as well, but I wanted someone to confirm/verify.

                  I'll see if he is game to reopen the TV and get a part number for the tcon. From my initial research, it looks like the tcon board is fairly generic and used in other non LG TV models.

                  It looks like the tcon is around $30 to $50 USD. I'll let him make the financial decision as to proceed or not with a tcon replacement.

                      After some patient ebay watching, I bought the t-con from a USA seller for a reasonable price and shipping to Canada.

                      It arrived Christmas Eve, gave it to my friend on Christmas Day, and he reports today that the replacement t-con has fixed his TV.

                      When searching for 37lc2d on the Internet, I found that many sellers listed this with the description 6870C-0060H. So I switched my search criteria from 37lc2d to 6870C-0060H. This listed several more lower cost optons and I noticed that this board is used in many other TV lcd models (RCA, Olevia, Syntax, Mintek, Sharp, Vizio).

                      My friend says to PlainBill. Thanks PlainBill for helping on this.

                          Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines

                          Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

                          Hi all
                          I have lines on the screen...which is an age old problem that can be remedied by watching Youtube videos and getting out the tape.
                          My issue (after successfully fixing a different sammy tv with a separate tcon board and isolating the side of the panel...):

                          This tv has an integrated tcon...so it is a bit more confusing when trying to isolate the clocks.
                          It has a c ribbon and i have taken each end out to see if that will isolate the lines. instead, it makes it much worse ALL over the tv!

                          So....i don't know what end of the C ribbon to work with...

                          Hi, I have a Sony XBR-65X750D that has horizontal lines at the bottom 6 inches of the screen. These lines appear to be every other line because the picture is still quite visible behind those lines. The lines appear all the time with a few other lines above and below the 6 inch level blinking on and off at about 2 second intervals. I'm not sure if this is a panel issue or power supply/main board problem. I did replace the T-Con board without any change in the problem. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

                          I just acquired this 3D LED yesterday and it has horizontal lines on a little more than half of the screen. When I first turn it on it has thin black lines going across that makes the image look serrated, and then shortly after patterns of thicker red lines fade in. If I turn it off and right back on it will reset to just the black lines and the red will again fade onto the screen.

                          I initially thought tab bonds, but flexing the bezel makes no difference, and the fact the image sort of resets after cycling power is different. I haven't opened it up yet to actually test applying...

                          SONY BRAVIA XBR-55A8H - White horizontal lines / red LED flashes four times

                          This "free from a friend who was going to recycle it" SONY BRAVIA XBR-55A8H arrived with the bottom center RED LED repeating a four flash pattern. It was treated with kid gloves and was reported to have "just gone dead" and the OLED panel has no dents in the metal frame or cracks.

                          Thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1091829 helped in proceeding as follows:
                          1) Unplugged, then plugged set in while holding the remote VOL- and Power to factory reset.

                          2) Waited 30 seconds, then pressed remote Power button and "Select language"...
