Desperate need to unlock a1425 emc 2557 firmware very "locked"
Hi everyone!
I have bought an used 820-3462 motherboard on an ecommerce site: mercadolibre/.. is like ebay, I replaced my old motherboard (burned SMC) with this one, but realized it was pin locked with 4 codes.. i cant return it so replaced the efi chip with my old motherboard but still not working fine... downloaded a dump replaced my own serial but still no luck... it shows a blinking folder but as soon as i assemble the whole mac it will go to black screen (only chime)... and this is driving me crazy because i did solder and desolder the efi chip 12 times!!! trying different options and dumps ... I do not have raspberry, only a simple ch34a which flashes ok on the dump, that is not the issue. The problem is that whatever firmware I place on it after 2 or 3 restarts or connecting everything, it goes to chime and black screen of death (backlight present though).. WHAT I'M doing wrong?
Now seems to be black screen only after chime,, no more blinking folder.
thanks in advance!!
PD i have original dump (and more that 12 modified versions that i have already tried..) in original the ME ANALYZER shows:
Firmware: Intel ME
Version: 8.0.4.1441
Release: Production
Type: Region, Extracted
FD: Unlocked
SKU: 1.5MB
VCN: 2
PV: Yes
Date: 06/03/2012
FITC Ver: 8.0.4.1441
Latest: No

Re: macbook pro A1425 emc 2557 bios request
thks a lot peste but did not seem to work. the screen is backlight on as expected, DID NOT hear a chime (will try edit and another serial) but nothing goes on, no drive option no folder blinking.... the screen as i have said is ok because when battery goes down it shows this:
note that with another firmware i can hear a chime at least... would you like me to post the BIN which let me hear the chime or what else can I try... really apreciate your help thks
PD I will attach below (for comparison maybe) the EFI you have posted , it is being modified by the system, and do not match the one i have flashed after restart (yours)
I can do it pretty fast because i have wired the efi chip to flash and retrieve instantly.

Try this one, off a working A1425, clean ME and tested. Updated with your S/N and Fsys checksum corrected.Attached FilesComment

Re: macbook pro A1425 emc 2557 bios request
Nop, same thing but "no chime"... no logo only backlight... strange.. as soon as i turn it on
with the new firmware, it modifies it, comparingboth with winmerge i can see a lot of different zones.... this is so locked that i do not know what to think or learn from this case.
i attach the re read efi after power on the mac

Re: macbook pro A1425 emc 2557 bios request
Can you make sure you are indeed using a 820-3462 motherboard? There was a later variant of the board for the A1425, 820-3190. The part number is hidden under a piece of black tape at the top of the board to the right of L7560.
If that is all ok, then I would do a sanity check on the U6100 connections to the rest of the board with a meter (R5021~R5024) as you said you had taken U6100 off the board a number of times.Comment

Re: macbook pro A1425 emc 2557 bios request
yes it says 3462-A... did not know was under that label thks for that. and im going to check traces and my wiring i know only a cap is missing at this time C6100 but the mother is wired and in place , since it is flashing ok and i can read the chip fine, and also is doing chime when i flash a semi good EFI and not chiming in yours or other ones i know that missing GND cap for the moment is not my issue (in diagram is the tiny one arroung the efi chip u6100)....
this is like the chipset or mother would be locked after many attemps to try different bios, is this possible? only problem is the no image now vs before (at least the first 3 or 4 tries i had image apple logo and bar forever, or the 4 pin lock number that finally the seller told me to be "1234".... unfortunatelly i cant get to the point to have in screen that 4 pin lock to enter it, since things got worse and now have only a chime when the firmware is semi good)Last edited by marce002; 02-16-2023, 07:07 AM.Marcelo JComment

Re: macbook pro A1425 emc 2557 bios request
post 13 chimes ok, but no image at all... only backlight ...at least that sound is fine.. if i wouldnt have seen the low battery indicator in full screen, i would asume a bad screen but i know is a good macbook unit besides this EFI issue... if i had time enough i would try alternate efi like coreboot for example , but unless i find a redy to use BIN file I cant deal with compile and all that nightmare...Marcelo JComment

Re: macbook pro A1425 emc 2557 bios request
As I said in the other group, I troubleshoot MAC boards out of the chassis with a Chipmunk and USB ammeter. Once I get the blinking on the USB port I know it's trying to boot an OS. USB ammeter tells me whether the CPU is executing code or not. Chime generally indicates that it's POST'ed.Comment

by macabookHello everyone,
I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
🧩 Initial Issue- Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
- External display (HDMI) shows

by jbonavitaHi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
Some issues
A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized
Things I tried
1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...-

by zeniusHello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.
Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...-

by WahazHello,
I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....-
