I have a Toshiba Laptop with recently installed windows 7. Some times when I open the led the darn thing will not wake up? The hard drive starts but black screen? I have to power off and on to get it back up. I do sometimes get a message that Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown but I assume that's because I shut it down. Any idea what would cause this? or where to look for a solution?

try a different driver for it.
most of the time when i get bugs like this, it's a buggy driver which doesn't support the power saving modes properly..
also look if there's a BIOS update..Comment

Re: Toshiba Satellite Laptop not waking up
Sometimes the latest and greatest driver doesn't work. My built in LAN card doesn't properly wake up from Microsoft patch site, but the previous verion did. Thus, I'm one revision behind the latest.
Originally posted by davgThanks for the reply I checked the Toshiba home page and there were a number of utilities and drivers that I was missing and downloaded. Re: Toshiba Satellite Laptop not waking up
getting the make & model and downloading the drivers directly from the manufaturers instead of the [laptop/mainboard/prebuilt PC] maker is what i usually do. sure.. it's more work to do, but you don't end up with drivers which are 2+years behind the actual manufacturer ones or something like that..Comment

Re: Toshiba Satellite Laptop not waking up
I usually use the latest and greatest driver, but in the LAN driver case, I had to revert back.
If the mouse is easy to take apart, try cleaning it. In my experience with the mouse moving by itself, it is usually the mouse's fault (dirty, going bad, etc).
Originally posted by davgThanks retiredcaps so it's not always good to take the updates?? I noticed that my bluetooth mouse is very unstable, with the pointer all over the place even without moving the mouse (its a Gear Head). could this be caused by the driver or is it a faulty mouse?--- begin sig file ---

Re: Toshiba Satellite Laptop not waking up
Thanks all. I have now downloaded and updated my computer from the Toshiba site and installed a Bios update. The problem is not as frequent but still exist. I tried installing a display driver from the Toshiba site that was for Vista but I get a message "not supported" when I try to install it?Comment

Re: Toshiba Satellite Laptop not waking up
Maybe Windows 7 SP1 will resolve your problem when it is supposed to be released later this month?

Hello,
on this old laptop toshiba satellite m40 331 i am trying (but failing) to upgrade frow w7 to w10 and allways i have the error : 0xc1900101 - 0c20017. The upgrading process stops with the pc blocked with the logo screen w10 on the display; then there is no activity on the disk hdd or ssd.
it's also impossible to boot from a dvd iso bootable, the device equally blocks on the w10 logo screen...
i verified the informations in the device manager and it seems there are no problems...
i wonder if it's not an issue about the bios (which is very old) or an interface problem...-
