Toshiba Satellite Laptop not waking up

I have a Toshiba Laptop with recently installed windows 7. Some times when I open the led the darn thing will not wake up? The hard drive starts but black screen? I have to power off and on to get it back up. I do sometimes get a message that Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown but I assume that's because I shut it down. Any idea what would cause this? or where to look for a solution?

    graphics card not waking up?!
try a different driver for it.

most of the time when i get bugs like this, it's a buggy driver which doesn't support the power saving modes properly..
also look if there's a BIOS update..

Thanks for the reply I checked the Toshiba home page and there were a number of utilities and drivers that I was missing and downloaded. Not sure it fixed my problem but time will tell. Thanks for prompting me to look. That's what I like about this site a simple prompt leads to greater things.

Sometimes the latest and greatest driver doesn't work. My built in LAN card doesn't properly wake up from Microsoft patch site, but the previous verion did. Thus, I'm one revision behind the latest.

Thanks retiredcaps so it's not always good to take the updates?? I noticed that my bluetooth mouse is very unstable, with the pointer all over the place even without moving the mouse (its a Gear Head). could this be caused by the driver or is it a faulty mouse? I have no way to measure because it was like this since a friend gave it to me.

getting the make & model and downloading the drivers directly from the manufaturers instead of the [laptop/mainboard/prebuilt PC] maker is what i usually do. sure.. it's more work to do, but you don't end up with drivers which are 2+years behind the actual manufacturer ones or something like that..

I usually use the latest and greatest driver, but in the LAN driver case, I had to revert back.

If the mouse is easy to take apart, try cleaning it. In my experience with the mouse moving by itself, it is usually the mouse's fault (dirty, going bad, etc).

Re: Toshiba Satellite Laptop not waking up

Thanks all. I have now downloaded and updated my computer from the Toshiba site and installed a Bios update. The problem is not as frequent but still exist. I tried installing a display driver from the Toshiba site that was for Vista but I get a message "not supported" when I try to install it?

Maybe Windows 7 SP1 will resolve your problem when it is supposed to be released later this month?

This situation is still giving me problems and it is driving me nuts. as I indicated I have done a bios upgrade and down loaded update drivers from the Toshiba site but than yesterday when it happened I shut down and re started it posted right up to the windows logo but wouldn't start windows? The only way to get it to re start was to do a restore and again this morning it wouldn't wake up without re starting? Some suggest a driver problem? How can I determine which driver might be giving a problem? Is there some test that might pin point the problem?
