well, i found something. since my netbook decided to crack a screen, am looking around for another laptop since spending $65 on a netbook worth 3x the amount is a bit of overkill.

i found this:

good deal? i have a seagate 60gb for it... i hope to run ubuntu on it.

since i am hard on laptops, this might be a good investment..

never mind... bad battery, looks like i will be getting a new screen then... why do such crap exist...

could a mod move this to the sales forum? if someone had something that will run ubuntu with everything other than an ide HD, that works, post in!

toughbooks are always a good option. otherwise i've been noticing that acer netbooks are more durable than asus ones.

Did you know Toshiba and Asus have the lowest failure rate of most (consumer) laptops makers?

Hp, unsurprisingly, is the highest.

A toughbook is heavy. You could kill someone with it. The 27/28 especially. Vehicle mounted its not a problem, carrying it around blows.

i need more $$$! geeks.com had toughbook 29 units for $320! 1.4ghz pentium m units. with touchscreens... but i only have $25 saved up... and no takers on some stuff i would like to sell locally...

what pisses me off is sellers that take good laptops and throw the drives, hd cadyy, and all else needed to make it run off the unit and charge you $$$ for them... it is like hijacking the laptop... if there is no hd, fine, BUT WHY DID YOU TOSS THE CADDY TOO?!

a lot of laptops and desktops i see with missing drives & frames/caddy's are ex-government or corporate.
they are sold by "disposal" company's and part of the contract they have is that all drives are destroyed by certified company's to prevent data recovery.

you can spot this sometimes because the seller may be advertising a proliant tower for example, but in the foto you may see it sitting on a bunch or shrinkwrapped pallets of the things!
