    Cats are an expensive investment

As posted in the PCMR group in facebook

So our cat peed on my computer. I used it with the case open cause I didn't have enough fan yet & all my games crashed when the temp goes high.
My brother turned it on without noticing and the power (of the whole house) goes off. And now the computer won't turn on again ☹️. I need help guys, I think it's the PSU but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.
    LOL RIP

    Bios chip is probably dead

cat pissing in/on my computer would be a capital offense here.

^This, though just entering my house would likely be a capital offense for a cat since my dog's opinion on cats ranges somewhere between "oh what a fun toy" and "mmm tasty".

Appears to be a PEBKAC error.... The only way I could replicate it being off screen to the right was the file name being absolutely huge long gibberishy text.

Not really. She's the kind of person who essentially said do what you want. It was bugging me much more than her. I now realize how much I dreaded going to BC every time because of the VIP forum. It was taking up so much time and energy and let's face it, it was always an uphill battle for me because I had very few people even close to my side. I think Petes and Linuxguru were the closest thing I had to political/scientific allies and they didn't come around much. I'm not exactly a liberal myself but good g_d even at that I was outnumbered

PeteS is pretty moderate/well balanced with a conservative twist...funny you mentioned him....I don't even disagree with him much, infact I cant think of any disagreements/debates I've ever had with him. Linuxguru, yea, I could see him being on your 'side'... As for the labels, meh...

With all due respect, I always thought it weird a grown man into that....but maybe it's just our generation gap showing.

All that said, I hope you're doing better.

It's really not a generation gap. It's a good show. A LARGE number of men and women watch it from all ages. A 19 year old chick (at the time) I knew for several months (IRL, still facebook friends with) introduced me to it and I was weary but ended up enjoying it. A lot of the first season was a little obviously cringy for adults, but a few episodes in, and into the second season I really started getting into it. Adult viewers is part of the reason it went from three planned seasons to nine. It's cute for kids to like it, but it has references stretching back decades that only adults would get, making it entertaining for adults to watch with their children which I think was kind of the point with that writing.

I could tell already that would definitely not be my thing....if for no other reason, cartoons ended for me when the computers started drawing them. Hand-drawn cartoons can never be topped by tech....sorry! ...but to each their own, if you enjoy; that's all that matters.

It's not like it's my main thing at all. Just something I loved watching. I am a huge fan and even have a character (same one in my AV) is on my cell phone protector. But I haven't watched it in months. There are people out there that are HUUUGE fans that go to conventions and stuff like that. Last time was with my niece. Techs have other shit they like too. Probably like firearms with you.

Ok you're a decade older than me. Must have been thinking of someone else

lol a computer that actually got peed on by a cat! haha! that could have fooled me too if a client brought in a computer that smelled like cat piss and says it doesnt work. my instinct would say bad caps immediately because bad caps smell like cat piss also. i wouldnt have expected a cat actually peed in it... im not as pro as some of the members here... haha! yea have fun laughing and watching me recap and trying to fix a motherboard without knowing a cat actually peed in it and not knowing its really toast instead and im just wasting my time.

Come to think of it, when I worked at a shop in FT worth, we had a customer who left the side of the computer off and a dog peed on it. I think it worked after we cleaned it. I don't remember it entirely, it was 11 years ago

As for MLP, people should watch the Equestranauts episode of Bob's Burgers...

Anyway I wonder which is worse
                                  - Cat piss
                                  - Dog piss
                                  - Lemonade spill (citric acid?)
                                  - Coke spill (phosphoric acid?)

Granted the urea in the animal waste stinks more... and just like anything else, if it's on, it suffers more damage. Electronics can take quite a bit of spills when unplugged, capacitors discharged, and no battery installed...

This is a 2012 LG TV so aware full functionality of the smart functions/apps will be limited however currently unable to get the LG Smart Store.

Youtube, Netflix and LG Smart store icons briefly appear in the apps list but then automatically disappear after doing 'Initialisation of Premium' via the standard menu, I'm guessing this is due to the Country/Area group its set to is wrong for the UK.

Unable to change the country group, Area option can be changed which alters the country group but none make any difference. So believe its the country group that needs changing....

Hey, I find it very absurd that the SVOD4 costs so much and has zero documentation. I had no other choice than to buy it to unlock ECs, if there was any documentation or firmware avalible I could've made it or something simmilar. Anyways here are some of the most important parts:

STM32H723VGT6 MCU - It's a microcontroller by STMicroelectronics and its the whole brain of the SVOD4. It has flash memory for the firmware which can be updated by the SVOD4 program. Its also powered by the AMS117 which converts 5v into 3.3V. 7€ on AliExpress.

This thing is pretty expensive. More than an average notebook.

Anyway. I got this job over facebook market place. Customer said he bought it used and it was working fine, then he decided to upgrade firmware and somewhere along the way the battery died or whatever we don't know, it got bricked. That's his story and he's sticking with it.

If we connect power supply to it, we are getting 21 milliamps and nothing is happening. Pressing buttons does nothing....

Asus laptop won't boot (no power) - possible bad caps?

I would like to see if anyone could help me salvage a very expensive laptop that is no longer working.

                                    The model:
                                    Asus Zenbook Pro Duo UX582L

I have used this laptop lightly since I purchased it new in 2022. I have always taken precautions to take care of it the best I could, and have never done anything that would risk causing damage to it or shorten it's life.

However, around six months ago, the laptop stopped working on battery power. It continued to work fine when plugged in, but as soon as power was disconnected,...
