    Battery not fully charging

So I get a new battery for my T30 thinkpad and the first charge went okay.
The next charge it goes up to 76% and stays there with the system charging the battery and the number not rising any more.
I cycled the battery again and now I'm at 66%.
I'm assuming a faulty battery, right?

      Re: Battery not fully charging

I bought a china battery for my X21. It did exactly this. First charge 100%, then 80% then 65% and so on until it would only hold 14% and run for 15-20 minutes.

I reported the company for counterfeiting on ebay and got my money back.

It's got a three year warranty so I'm sure I can get it replaced.

Many lithium-ion batteries for computers have an electronic fuel gauge, which needs to be calibrated by a manufacturer-provided utility from time to time.
(I tried to charge up a lithium-ion battery pack with a charger which can do those batteries, but the laptop would not start is because even though the battery is fully charged; the electronic fuel gauge was reading "empty")

i miss the days of "dumb" battery packs on laptops :/

like on my 386.. 4pins on the battery pack. positive, negative, t1, t2.
nothing in the battery pack except the cells and a temp-sensor.
all the charging stuff is in the laptop.. really easy to replace the cells..

i'm prolly the only one with a 386SXL 25 laptop with copro added and about 4 1/2 hours runtime on batteries lmao

one other thing to make sure of is the bios is updated if you are getting a higher capacity of a battery then what came in the laptop. I have seen some laptops that will not even charge the battery until the bios is updated when putting in a newer, higher capacity battery then the one from the factory.

The BIOS is up to date.

Yep. I am indeed covered under warranty and all I do is send this one back and they send me another, no questions asked.
