hmm.. now that i look, i notice how there is only 1 fan spot... but the hard drives are spaced such that if i but a good one htere, it should all breathe, i have a few good one for that.

Re: suggestions for a cheap but sturdy case

      dang, typos are killing me...

wht i meant to say was i noticed there was room for only one fan. research says it is likely to be 92mm. looking at the hard drive spacing, i should be fine with that fan as it will pull air from the back through the front. i do not plan on OCing to the extreme, if at all... i happen to have a good fan for hat (it's loud but q-fan takes care of that)

from what i read it was supposed to be a g4 clone. they came out ages ago, sold for $140 a the time, and now are cheap because they are so old.

see? not flimsy! (now i might save up $36 for it).

You get what you pay for. If you really want a sturdy mofo of a case, save up and buy an Antec Solo or something of similar quality.

            Otherwise don't bother.

Re: suggestions for a cheap but sturdy case

uh... it is cheap because of it being an older design (apple G4 clone), not being flimsy. the reviews i saw said that he case is sturdy, as long as you arn't dumb with it (dropping from a balcony, hitting it with a car, etc.). it is actually a nice case, it is that cheap because it is overstock.

see? no shiny thin metal. the screwless system in it is atually very nice.

Correct, what you pay is what you get.

Pay bit more on the good case and it will last you at least a decade. Mine is now 11 years old. I have done much modifications but not much even a rust, just heavy patina.

                    Cheers, Wizard

Re: suggestions for a cheap but sturdy case

not when it is overstock! honestly, they originally sold for much more when the came out (about $140). its not like they have always been low cost. the reason it is on geeks.com is it was discontinued by Atech. they bought it as NOS from them (as did many sites) at a very low cost and since demand is low, the price is low.

look, i simply do not have enough for a solo + new drives. i just don't. what i found is good quality, and if you are so sure if it is crap, then what other than the current price tells you so? did you even read the review i linked?

(note- the ports on the bottom is fine by me, i will likely have it on my desk)

when you compare new to new, you are right. but trust me, i have found shoes on clearance at shoe carnival cheaper than i found crappy wal-mart shoes. in that case i paid less and got more. the same is here too.

Foxxcon, Apex Technology and SuperCase (all pretty much the same brand) are good cheap cases, but they're not "laminated tinfoil" like the real cheap ones

Just make sure you don't use the PSUs that come with them!

notice how the one i found has no psu. i would be using my recapped and modded ultra V 500w.

foxconns are good, i have one myself. some old one i got at a thrift store. I have a compaq case made by them as well (presario 7000).

look, im decided. when i get 36 greenbacks, and if it is in stock, then i will buy one and post my findings. i have seen no indication in reviews about it being flimsy. i like the look and it fits what i have nicely.

look at servers on ebay with the intention of junking the board.

i have an intel sc5000 - they are nice.
was supplied with a dual slot1 pentium2 board - used standard atx backplate & bolt spacings etc.

I was looking at Casing Macron's website and saw that the intrerior of one of their cases is the same as Cooler Master's Elite 33x series. The front panel is different, though. See for yourself:
