    mobo power consumption?

does anybody know how much current on the 12v line an average 64bit athlon or p4 uses?
not dual-core - just 1st gen stuff like socket 939 or older.

    Re: mobo power consumption?

Highest watts is about 68W-80W for most of P4 (especially 2.4-3.2GHz prescott. Buy Northwood if you must for P4's) and around 90W-130W for top of the line EE P4s. Athlon and 939 were 55W to 95W, some just 110W.

This is why I am scathing of P4 prescott core CPU. Inefficient for wattage used.
This where I waited around till C2D got affordable enough few years ago and switched from Athlon 462 3000+ barton.

Often in the 10-12A range for a system. I like this calculator for this kind of calculations.

      Edit: Assuming PSU requirements.

        i didnt say "system",
i'm just wondering about using a small but nice psu for testing mobo's on the bench.

not up on watt's conversion, how many amps would 100w at 12v be?

          100w/12v=8 1/3 Amps.

I would recommend a psu with 15A or more for bench testing p4's so they can handle the sudden power increases that may happen a bit better.

            o.k. that's good.

            i have a dual-redundant unit here.

            DELTA RPS-350B

            +5v 32A
            +5v stb 2A
            +3.3v 28A
            +12v 12A

            total 350w, with 195w of that on the 5v & 3.3v lines.
*but* it can run at 180%+ of that if i want to max both modules & lose the redundancy.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
              by PantherDave
              Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

              Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
              by GLISIT
              Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

2070 Super with crazy power consumption numbers
              by Joe24
Have a Gigabyte 2070 Super with some bonkers power draw readings. Card runs fine, other than some GPU throttling because of the power numbers. But GPU power always reads too high, more than the power reading for the entire card. And VRAM power always reads way too low, along with PCIe and 6-pin power readings. The 8-pin reading seems plausible.

Typical readout while running 720p Furmark, 8x AA:

              GPU clock: 1590 MHz
              Mem clock: 1750 MHz
              GPU temp: 58.8 °C
              Hot spot: 71.8 °C
              Fan speed: 33% / 1000 rpm
              Mem used: 454 MB
              GPU load: 97%
              ...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
