      Re: never trust samsung

And this is why my 2006 40 incher LE40M61B is here to stay.

CCFL, outlived about a good ton of LED models, has enough connectivity to make a stellar multi-platform gaming station (HDMI, 2x SCART, 2x Composite, Component, VGA, RF, S-Video, and optional separate outputs for each.) and doesn't require any internet connectivity.

Yes, it's a pretty hungry set (275W!) but at least it's still got some pretty livid colors, and playing older systems (like PS2/retro PCs like Pentium III 650MHz or Pentium II 400/PS3 as well/Wii) looks brilliant on it. And the speakers are about on par with a 2.1 Logitech speaker system I have, which is pretty surprising.

Try and block this if you can, Samsung!
      Main rig:
      Gigabyte B75M-D3H
      Core i5-3470 3.60GHz
      Gigabyte Geforce GTX650 1GB GDDR5
      16GB DDR3-1600
      Samsung SH-224AB DVD-RW
      FSP Bluestorm II 500W (recapped)
      120GB ADATA + 2x Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS 1TB
      Delux MG760 case

they are implying it's global, and we dont know how long it's been going on.
or if it's only tv's or if they can fuck your phone/computer like apple can.

The TV would face the business end of my 12 gauge before I'd go through the effort of having to prove to samsung that the TV is legitimately mine.

If all they're being used on is units that were reported by stores as looted, fine. No different then dye packs on stacks of money.

If they're using it every time they detect a new owner... heck no.

In principle I agree....but it could very easily be exploited or otherwise wrongly/mistakenly used...especially as worthless as TV's are these days.

well the fuckers used the phrase
limit looting and "third party purchases," and ensuring that the TVs can only be used by "rightful owners with a valid proof of purchase."
kind of reminds me of sony trying to push the idea of selling your old playstation discs being illegal.
are they going to kill tv's that are sold second hand??

Yikes! It uses watts just like a plasma! I have a 2009-built plasma that possibly uses less!

Computer monitors seem more reliable than TVs! Why do TVs seem to have a lot more bad LEDs and panel drivers?

Considering the past track record of "smart" stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if someone found a way to disable random TVs (like the Western Digital NAS remote wipe exploit).

I'll keep my plasma healthy/working until the panel itself is toast....I wouldn't trade it for any new 4k out there.

                                  Simple

                                  1. Don't connect your TV to the internet
                                  2. Get a roku and do what you want

I have a 2008 Samsung 46" CCFL and it's still beautifully working. Can't imagine downgrading to anything else. If i was, it wouldn't be samsung (except their phones)

The last Samsung TV I had still had a CRT in it.

                                    A working TV? How boring!

Correct.....but sometimes it's just the principle of the thing. I've also read that some will not "activate" until you do...starting to sound like a windows PC...but I have not seen one yet.

This sounds worse than the laptop-anti-theft debacles!

Might as well give us a key fob for our TVs now, just like automobiles!
