Re: PC Power Draw?
That is an APFC power supply according to Supermicro with a power factor of 0.99
So it should measure the same on the old and new meter.
But a good way to make sure the new (and old) meter works as intended is described in this old post:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...postcount=2444
Here is the test report and specs of that PSU from what Google provided:

Re: PC Power Draw?
That's sort of the problem with PVRs and webservers, can't exactly tell when it needs to be on when it's getting "requests" off the air or online... so they need to be up waiting for them
(And even if it's not actively recording, it still needs to pick up EPG data.)
The other thing that pisses me off is that one of the DVBs I have, it goes bonkers when suspended. Driver problem probably, else suspend/resume would have been a good solution, alas foiled...Comment

Re: PC Power Draw?
Thanks, good info. Just for grins, I did order a P3 "Kill-A-Watt" model 4400, which I'll test against the old PM57 power monitor....which should read about the same....back when the PM57 was made, SMPS's weren't the standard; not sure if they had even been invented yet. I'm guessing that meter is circa ~1960's, maybe 1970's. I've had it since the early 90's, came from a defunct shop I bought out. That is an APFC power supply according to Supermicro with a power factor of 0.99

Re: PC Power Draw?
You were lucky to have an APFC PSU and you can compare results. Once you throw in a non PFC PSU you can't. Can't even compare with itself really, you can get a number but it's not meaningful, like if you got 3 when banging on the GPU and 1.5 when you're not, you can't necessarily say that it's double power in the first situation (it could be be more like 2.5x depending on the PF).
Of course this will be moot once you get the Kill-A-Watt which you can do the same as your PM157 and more, including comparing non PFC PSUs.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by GLISITHi all,
TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!
I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... -
by nule4hi, im newbee to all of this, but learning. i have problem to locate failed component on motherboard. laptop suddenly stop working, no signs of life at all. try measuring power rails, but as soon i connected before measured multiple power adapters (all of them gave me 19V and working on another laptops), and start measuring first spot on mb (black on ground and red on red wire on mb power connector) it showing power fluctuacting from 0.40V to 0.60V instead 19V. from one ac adapter heard clicking sound, from another ac adapter standby led start blinking. any help would be greatly appreciated. ...
