    Re: Eeepc Linux

Hmm... I just figured something out... using the "disk cleanup" program in Windows allowed me to free up nearly 400MB of space by deleting internet offline files and temporary files.

I didn't compress anything on my hard drive though.

I can not say for sure. I tried looking up the specs for AVG and can not find a requirement for disk space, or just about anything else for that matter. You have to have at least windows 2000 or XP to install, depending on the site. that is all that they say. One thing that I can say is that in install file size, I use avast and the new version that just came out is about 41 MB in size while AVG is over 76 MB but what that is equivalent to installed, dont know.

that does bring up a good question.. Why put out an antivirus, or any other program for that matter, and not put down any requirements for RAM, processor, or disk space???

        Re: Eeepc Linux

I just finally found one site with the requirements for AVG 9 They are:

        http://anti-virus-software-review.to...-software.html

        Minimum System Requirements

Processor: Intel Pentium 1.5GHz or faster
        Memory: 512 MB of RAM
Hard disk free space (for installation): 350 MB

        Recommended System Requirements

Processor: Intel Pentium 1.8 GHz or faster
        Memory: 512 MB RAM
Hard disk free space (for installation): 470 MB
If you want a smaller one with less requirements that is good, go with avast.. version 5 requirements are:

        http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#tab2

        requirements

        * Processor Pentium 3, 128 MB RAM, 100 MB of free hard disk space
        * Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 (32/64 bit)
and i believe both are free in some way. AVG requires you to do something (not sure what) and avast requires registration (basic info like name, age, gender and country) for the free home version..

You can get a SD card, 16GB or 32GB and install software like firefox , etc into your card, so as it will save space for you.

Do you still need the linux disk?

16GB and 32GB SD cards price is nuts. Nearly exceeds the value of EeePC Surf series.

            Cheers, Wizard

I don't know if it was version 3 or 4 (gave up on it quickly). I use ESS and give people comodo because of the firewall. Avira is good too.

I never used ESS or comodo, but agree that avira is good.

I have time warner cable or road runner for internet. They give CA for free. I went the other direction..

                      Hello,

this is a very strange Problem:

Notebook hang instantly on Boot. BIOS is accesable.

                      i have tried:

Requests to Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux Ubuntu x86_64
                      by tsavpyn
                      Dear all,
I forgot my BIOS password of my Surface Pro 3, I searched for solutions for a long time and knew that by using FPT to dump my bios to bin file and using decryptor, I can get my BIOS password.
Now I have a problem that I am unable to dump my BIOS into bin file.

My Surface Pro 3 currently runs on Ubuntu 22.04, with Secure Boot enabled and Boot From SSD Only.

I searched for FPT but there is no Linux version and none of them work.
I hereby request a copy of Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux x64.
I would really appreciate it if anyone...

MS Surface Book 3 - Keyboard works only in UEFI/Linux
                      by survivalbloke
This is a very weird issue which I'm having trouble finding a common thread.

The keyboard is registering keypresses in either the UEFI, or a live Linux USB environment - I used Ubuntu for testing. The keyboard backlight is lit.

The keyboard is registering keypresses in Windows or any Windows-related bootable device. For example, it does not work in Hirens Recue or a Windows 11 bootable installer.

When booted to Windows, not only is the keyboard not registering keypresses, but my USB keyboard is not either!

                      USB mouse and integrated trackpad...

SPD reading/writing under Linux and/or Windows
                      by keepread
                      Hi all,
Where can I find the mysterious 'eeprom' kernel module that some use under Linux to read/write SPD?
I installed 'i2c-tools' and got 'decode-dimms' tool under Debian but not under Fedora, but both of them are missing the 'eeprom' module.
Also tried the SPD.exe tool from EVGA, which correctly lists all of the DIMM slots but reads zeroes from all of them.
Basically I need to dump SPD from some modules that were sold to me as DDR-1866 but are made of DDR-1600 chips, and they do not work. There is no access to RAM clock rate in the BIOS, so I am SOL unless I can rebin...
