    I don't agree, all 8.1 needs is a start-menu replacement like Start8 IMO.
To fix Windows 10 takes a whole lot more!

At least 10 is somewhat better than 8. At least there is start menu and Metro is reduced.

I will just copy my reply from last years poll
    I voted Win7.
And seeing how stubborn I am it will remain like that for a while I imagine

Yep. Even with Win8.1, I pull the LAN before installing Windows and it doesn't see said LAN connection again until I'm at a desktop, ready to install drivers.

I remember reading the hoops you speak of and just found it easier to make sure the system was offline....haha

I upgraded all of my workstations when 7 support ended. Some I did fresh installs on, some I upgraded in place. Few issues with the upgrade, other than the occasional driver bull pucky.

That said, my personal 10 accounts are connected... because I have a dev account with them that I used to get an insider preview of 10 ages ago. No issues so far...

I flat-out REFUSE to install 10 on any system around here. I'll kick it over to 8.1 Pro, but once that drops, it's Debian Linux. No 10 around here.

Do you know what annoys me most in Win10? Lack of personalization options.
You cant even pin programs to start menu, unless you manually create folder in the dirs of the start menu, put icons there and then pin them. So, if you have a program that is exe only, like WinBox you cant pin it there. Neither you can pin shortcut to URL like page or SMB path. You cant put shortcuts to bat files either. Nor you can pin them to quicklaunch. The new control panel is almost useless and terrible. I don't understand why you need 2 control panels. And I made shortcut to it, put it in folder, after I found where start menu items are held and then pinned it to the start menu.
If they just remove the bug with 50% CPU, 100% HDD by Software protection, remove forced updates, privacy violations and the new control panel and leave alone the old one, Win10 can become decent OS. And Microsoft account crap. I want local account, I neither need, nor want Microsoft.

X2, most "in-place" upgrades I've seen from 7 to 10 ended up being a total disaster. They did a ton of them at work and most people I know who got one ended up having to spend half a day on with the service desk (people who had been involved with hundreds of these upgrades who knew what they likely issues would be and how to fix them) to fix all the issues afterwards (luckily I had incompatible software on my machine so I stayed on 7 until my laptop came up for replacement, as noted in my previous post I still have my old laptop for these specific programs as well, though that is a temporary solution, eventually they'll either get them working on 10 or give me a non-internet connected win 7 VDI for those programs since they really want to end paid support to Microsoft by 2022 and per our policies an unsupported OS can't be connected to the internet for security reasons).

With both my new work laptop and main personal laptop these were new machines (in the case of the personal laptop off-lease, but new to me) with fresh windows 10 installs and aside from all the windows 10 "annoyances" I haven't had any issues.

I've been holding off upgrading my main desktop for the same reasons Topcat lists, I know an in place upgrade would end up being a disaster with all the software it has on it, so I would need to do a fresh install (and reinstall everything else that is on it) which will be a giant pain in the butt that I will likely put off as long as possible (until 3rd party software support gets to the point it is unusable).

...and well, I'm still getting security updates for 7 on this machine...even after that ends, I'll still roll with it a little longer. This machine being out of service would be a big mess in the event of an upgrade explosion. When 7 first came out, I couldn't stand it....then came SP1 for it, which fixed all the really quirky crap, and I warmed up to it. 10 has been out for ~6yrs, I still haven't warmed up to it yet.... If it were a Fisher-Price toy, it'd be called "My first operating system"....but I will say, it functions decent. All the privacy issues is my biggest gripe with 10. Yes, I know if one is clever enough, they can make it shut up.....but what pisses me off is that I have to even do that in the first place.

I've noticed this with 56.x ESR as well. Mostly banking and higher security sites.

My E7400 is still running Vista with good old Firefox 52.9.0 ESR.

I mostly use windows 7, I have a hard drive with windows 10 which I swap in once in a while just to update it, which it is doing now (kb4592438) downloading and installing for the last 2 hours.( its at 47%) It still has kb4586876 pending. This is why I don't like windows 1.0
So I am using my trusty windows XP computer to enter this.

yeah i think the issue here is that some of us here have dual booting OSes on our main rigs, so what do we vote for if that is the case? the OS we use most often or the OS we use mainly on our main rigs?
