Raid help with Proliant ml350 G3

I have gotten a Compaq Proliant ML350 G3 and I want to setup windows 2000 server on it. It has 2 18gb 15k rpm hard drives, I want to mirror these drives. Right now they are showing up as 2 individual drives in windows setup. How do I setup a mirrored set on this machine, it is using a Compaq Ultra 3 scsi controller (adaptec 7899w from what i see on the board). I have done this many times on other machines but this one is not working the same. On boot it has the message when it hits the scsi rom " Hit F8 for multi initatior configurator". I do that and it sees 2 ultra 3 controllers and asks me to pick 1 or 2, both hard drives and cdrom are on 1. Then it asks if i want to change the scsi ID. Then it asks if want to reset the scsi bus, and that is it, nothing about changing the raid.

How do I mirror this thing????

    it may not have raid.
what is the compaq part number of the card?
also older compaq raid like the 3200 need a boot disk with the raid configuration util.

i agree, first you need to find out if they enabled raid on that onboard controller. it is capable but you know they like to sell smart array cards.

on the dl380 smart array 6i i just use boot hp smart start cd to do the raid configuration before install of the os. if it supports the os you are installing it smart start will do much of the os install itself and put all the drivers and tons of HP management crap......otherwise you can just configure the raid and then shutdown and boot with your os cd for manual install.

i guess you dont have the cd though.

ask on the hp forums proliant servers section, they will assist

      great server though

          well crap

used the cd, worked great, but when i tried to configure the raid with it, it told me no supported raid controllers found . I used it to initiate the windows install, worked great, nice and easy. Tried to use the windows utility and it tells me the same thing. Guess the onboard is gimped. Disk management just shows me two independent drives.

Is there a way to do software raid with win2k server?

Yes. Also, did you look hard enough to find the floppy disk image (if available) on the internet?

yep you can do software raid but personally i would look for a card on ebay if your data is important to you.

Drive SMART status not showing up through RAID controller?
                  by canadaboy25
                  Hey guys,

I have an Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard with AMD RAIDXpert. I set up a 1000GB RAID1 array on it. This was about 8 years ago. Every once in a while, a power outage or something would knock one drive offline and degrade the array. After a reboot the drive would be back online and it would rebuild just fine.

Recently, a drive dropped offline and the array became degraded. I figured it was no big deal and rebooted then set it to rebuild overnight. The next morning I took a look and both drives had dropped offline at 70% rebuild. Uh oh.

                  I rebooted...
