    Beat up ASUS

To my pure luck I finally located a motherboard with a multi-voltage (notchless) AGP Pro slot, the ASUS CUV4X.
The thing is that it got pretty beat up. There are three damaged 6.3V 1500uf Rubycons and another 6.3V 4700uf Rubycon, a damaged 8 switch dip-switch pack and two damaged torroid coils. Looks like something fell on it.
Everything else looks undamaged and a visual inspection also finds no scratching on the PCB. while the caps I can replace no problem, those torroid coils are the other thing. I can get hold of more off another board no problem but I hear that it's important to replace it with one with a similar number of winds. The one undamaged coil has 18 winds but I can't determine what the others had (might of been 12 on the damaged ones).
So where should I start looking? Another Coppermine Socket 370 motherboard?

Same number of winds and I think wire size has to be similar. I replaced an Emac coil with one that was thicker and had 1 less winding and then it died the rest of the way. If the coils are in the same spot they probably have the same number of windings.

CUV4X-? Any letter? Different coils depending letter. Do these lie flat or stand on edge?

Well the silkscreening is a circle so I'm assuming the coils laid flat on the board as opposed to the undamaged one that stands upright and has a silkscreened square around it. I can look on google at a mobo shot to confirm.

          Also, it's just the CUV4X (rev. 1.03).

          EDIT: yep, they laid flat.

Also, bummer this isn't a CUV4X-D. Now that looks like fun.

            CUV4X ...?

hmm.. i've got a Asus Medion2001 Board (which is a CUV4X-VM without Hardware Monitoring)

if you're lucky, the values should be printed below those torroids..

if not.. well.. here's my board.. (if that helps..)

            hope this helps somehow...

That might do as I managed to unmangle the other one (it was just twisted sideways but with a bit of work I bent it back in place and does not appear to have any shorting on the coil).
I should be able to source a 4700uf Nichicon cap from an old Compaq and I'll order the other caps from topcat.

It's nice they have multi-voltage AGP pro slots as well but there are no caps. :/

Any 7 or 8µH coils mounted on edge? Actually, that doesn't matter. I can take flat mounts and make them work.

Man, 4 micro Henry's is Small !!! I have been looking at the wrong boards. All the salvage boards I see are like 11 or 9.
I guess I need to look at a better quality of junk

The replacement coil arrived today and I'll figure out how to replace it (use the weller gun for this?) after I get some rest. Working all night really takes a beating out of you.

                                        Yeah, thanks a bunch.
I went and swapped out the coils today as well as I tried working on the damaged caps and out of the bunch, I was able to replace one but two others are no good and have to be replaced. For testing reasons, would it be wise for temporary use to power the system on with two missing caps?
