  • Re: Blown up ext. USB case PSU

All I can say is...WOW! that is one heated and burned PSU. I will add, however that the link in the original post leads to some of the BEST photos I've seen yet.
I humbly bow and ask how do you get such great results ? My photos are
right up there in mediocre, sliding towards bad, as time permits. Crisp, clean
clear. Man, what a difference from looking at my crap.

I don't have a background in designing circuitry, just in repairing it.

been VERY helpful in isolating (pun) problems in Switching Power SuppliesRe: The whole Two Transistor Thing

  • Re: !@#%&* Ups....

Well. let me tell ya'll about my latest...and CERTAINLY not last. I'm going over (and over...) a Dell 18" LCD screen for troubleshooting. The problem is intermittent video, and odd signal to output (V fluctuations pin 12, 15 and ground) So I pop the board out and lo and behold...a cap isn't tacked down with solder (helpful). That seems to be the problem, so I fire up my 25 watt iron, and try to (re)flow the cap (SMT).
I touch the iron to the pad on the NON-CONTACT side and then lift the iron to see my results...
    Hmm...where's the cap????...

Got a call from a good friend to go "clean up" after Microsoft came to town. We dutifully took out about 30-40 bags of lunch trash and when we were done the head lady asked us to "clean out" the conference room. We shrugged and walked in...stopped dead. My friend asked her what to do with all the machines. She turns around and says "Get rid of them, but we want them destroyed OK?. 16 IBM ThinkPads (T22) 2 X41 tablets, 2 Dell desktops, and a small Dell projector. We hauled to the truck, and then hauled ass. Next time Microsoft...
