Possible new build time....
Main Rig V6 is built and running, and I have some leftover hardware when V5.2 was gutted to make V6:
Topcat, lately my main source of workstation build inspiration, suggested I look at these:

Compared to the X7DWA-N that I can't find a replacement for, that's pretty cheap! What the hell, I tossed in an offer... even for $50, that's hard to pass up. Sure I only get 6 RAM slots (24GB limit, which I would max out with what I have), but that's not a huge loss. UIO slot too, so I can reuse my SAS card!
However, I am missing some required parts for this... mainly HDDs, and Case/PSU. And backplates, since these normally are made for SM cases with standoffs and holes for the coolers. Although whatever this goes it can probably be transfer punched and drilled to accept standoffs (with nuts or screws from behind the motherboard tray).
I really don't know where to go with this... whatever I do, it will need very good cooling for the wickedly hot FBDIMMS.
One idea is to find an OEM ATX case of some sort, throw in an appropriately beefy PSU, and make a sleeper. If it cooled better (and wasn't trashed), My dad's old HP D530 case would fit the bill. Being an ATX board, I have more options than my usual EATX builds.
Another option is supermicro ATX cases, which do exist. Not "different" compared to my other builds, but an option nevertheless.
Also, I don't have a GPU for it, but if I ever SLI V6, I'll have to get different GPUs for it, so that Zotac GTX 970 might be available.
All suggestions are welcome, please don't be butthurt if I raise questions or have concerns.

- Two 3Ghz Quad core Harpertown Xeons
- Dynatron coolers for ^
- 32GB of DDR2 FB-Dimms
- An adaptec UIO SAS card
- an unreliable supermicro X7DWA-N motherboard
