Shorted my mobo, causing 2 blown caps

Um, ya. I was (stupidly) putting in a PCI card when my computer was running. I must have shorted something because the PC reset and it sounded the alarm. When I was putting in the PCI card, I was doing it by sliding my hand in the side of the mobo. I couldnt see what I was doing, so I ended up shorting the circut. Yep. Pretty stupid. I turned over the case (which is a tower) and found that two of my JackCon 1500mF 6.3v -40+105C capacitors were blown. Now, I have a computer that boots EXTREMELY slow, an alarm sounds after about 5 seconds of boot, and it is dectecting all my hardware all over again. So, here I am. I posted a thread like this one at OSNN.net. A guy named TRUKKMANN directed me to this site. Oh, and just a point of info: your home page (badcaps.net) looks kinda old. I was reading one of the articles on the front page, and found that the editor was talking about 2007. Here it is, 2009. It kinda concerned me until i asked over at OSNN.net if you guys were still up and running. They said the front page hasnt been updated in awhile, but the forum is active. I cant seem to find any of the same capacitors as you on eBay or anywhere else. Anyway, Is it possible that I could have harmed something more than just the caps? If it did, I will have to buy a new PC. Cant live without one.

Re: Shorted my mobo, causing 2 blown caps

i moved your post as it fits better here.
first of all hot swapping a pci card did not blow the caps.those jackcons(junkcons) are well known bad parts.among the first wave of bad ones.
second it is much easier to help you if you post brand, model and pictures of your board.

Part selection for possible blown inductor on ASUS GX531-GW-AB76 laptop mobo
      by swerg
      Hey everyone,

I'm a novice trying to repair my laptop. The LCD screen has an image, but no LED backlight for the image. It also produces an image when connected to an external monitor.
I have found what I believe to be a blown inductor labeled "L4502" and "120 Ohm" in the schematics (zoomed in image, blue arrow to blown component). I have included an image of the general area of the mobo and an excerpt from the schematics as well.
I am having trouble selecting a replacement component, which I believe to be a 120 Ohm ferrite bead, from the components...

      Acer Alienware Nitro 5 (GH51G LA-L181P Rev: 1C) & Dell Alienware M15 (GDP50 LA-k452P Rev:1) - Both Shorted PCH (SRKMA)!
      by reessi
      Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

      I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

      Panasonic TC-P50S1 shorted TXNSC1EDUU (TNPA4782AB) SC Board
      by Yanleb
Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

      D608, good
      D618 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
      D619 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
      D865 RF101L4S, shorted (See warning 1 below)

      HP Victus 15-FA1025NL , board DAG3PAMB8D0 REV:D, shorted CPU DrMOS and n-mos
      by modtool
      Hi to all,
the owner of this machine gave it to me after having opened it to take off the dust from the inside, telling me that after that it didn't start anymore.
I found that one of the DrMOS (AOZ5016QI) on the CPUCORE was shorted between VIN and VSWH, and that one of the two n-mos connected to the power jack was shorted aswell.
I unsoldered the two shorted components and verified that there were no other short circuits, then decided to power the mainboard, firstly with the lab power supply, then with its original HP 200w charger, but the behaviour is the same, the board starts...

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
      by cmlewis89
      Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...
