This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by tongshadowI got this set for very cheap, it works perfectly but the catch is that the protective coating was damaged. About 45% of the screen had a green tint, you can see exactly where the layer changed colors to a blueish tone (that actually makes everything green).
"Ok, that's probably just the anti-glare layer" - I thought. So using a microfiber cloth and automotive metal polish I was easily able to turn it into a nice mirror.
Unfortunately, the damage was beyond this layer and everything still had a horrible green tint. I initially... -
by 13mh13The PCB motor for 1987 Technics SLP-120 CD player has slow spin-up issues. Similar to what another tech in the below video reported.

I replaced the three bi-polar 47uF electros but that made no difference. The orig three bi-polar 47uF electros tested okay on my ESR M-tester.
I have not tested/replaced those alum. SMD electro PCB caps.
Are Al smd caps are more prone to failure (or degradation) than regular thru-hole electros?
All the thru hole electros I removed / replaced on this CDP (and most...-
