    Airbus A320 CPU

When I was reading about the A320 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A320_family) some of the computers were built around the 8086 (introduced in 1978). I still wonder why the more powerful Motorola 68000 (introduced a year later) was not used.
Could this have something to do with stability issues?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

    Re: Airbus A320 CPU

Embedded systems still use 8-bit CPUs like the venerable 6809 or Z8 or similar stuff from the 70s. There's a huge body of knowledge related to them, and the code for most applications has been thoroughly analyzed, tested, debugged, verified, validated, etc. If you have a working landing gear or transducer controller using an 8-bit CPU, there's no reason to develop a new one with a 32-bit CPU just because the 32-bit CPU is newer and shinier.

It's also easier and less expensive to get mil-spec and aerospace-spec versions of 8 and 16-bit CPUs than most 32-bit CPUs. The 8086 is also available in low-power static and rad-hard versions, which is important for aerospace. You'll also find it inside a lot of missile guidance systems.

      why would they need power?
will they be encoding video, or (essentially) running simple mechanical processes.

they probably have more power in navigation systems....

Removing electrical noise introduced by fan
        by tony359
        Hi all,

I am working on a sound processor, it tends to overheat so I fitted a fan inside. The fan is connected to the +15V of the PSU via a DC-DC converter based on the LM2596 to reduce the voltage to around 10.5V.

Unfortunately the analogue circuitry is picking up the noise from the fan in two ways:
        1. The fan is close to the analogue section, the motor itself gets into the outputs so I'll have to move it somewhere else
        2. Even with the fan running outside of the case, there is still some noise which is clearly going back to the processor via power line....

        ASUS A320 Bios fix doubts
        by Chester1994
Hey everyone. I need to repair the BIOS of my Asus Prime A320m-k. I need you to correct me if my procedure is wrong.

        1) I downloaded the .CAP file from ASUS website and extracted the UEFI Image as BIN with UEFITOOL.

        2) Do I need to keep any data from the corrupted BIOS that is on my board? I´ve read about using WBT in order to keep DMI data (motherboard serial and other stuff)? And, if I 100% need to do it, I have tried WBT.exe by dragging the bin file to it, but it did nothing. What should I do in that case? Should I save and replace any specific part of the corrupted...

        Vizio a320-a0 eeprom
        by RDC55
        Hi everyone,

I was trying to repair this Vizio 32 inch and have isolated it to the EEPROM. The symptoms are it does not respond to the power button and so no backlights or any indication that the button was even pressed. Applying freeze spray to the EEPROM while the set is unplugged, and then plugging it in and all is well.

Now I know I can buy pre-programmed EEPROMS for $15.00 or so, but I wanted to do this myself. So, the original EEPROM is Winbond 25Q64FSIG. I ordered this but received a 25Q64JSIG, which has slightly different timing characteristics. Well, being hopeful...
