Re: buid quality
Wow, that is one hell of a beaten computer. But like the old saying goes, they don't make them like that anymore.
That said, I'm not surprised it has lasted that long. I have quite a few CRT monitors that are getting close to the 20-year old mark (and one that is 22 years already). All still work fine, though they certainly don't get as much use as the C64 in the above link (though, not using a piece of hardware could be almost equally bad if it has electrolytic capacitors that sit unused on the shelf).
Anyways, I hope my computers can become like that someday. The only thing that would be different is the keyboard. I like my keyboards clean, so no matter how much I use them, I always try to keep them clean.Last edited by momaka; 10-01-2016, 07:32 PM. -
Re: buid quality
Nah, I just unscrew the top part of the keyboard and give it a power wash with the garden hose outside and a bit of dish soap. For really dirty keyboards, I also use a tootbrush sometimes before giving it a power wash. Makes my keyboards look like brand new again.Comment

by DXseekerMOHello everyone!
Recently I've noticed that some ShopJimmy backlight strips don't have double-sided tape installed upon them when an application calls for it, and I must purchase the tape separately. In a recent chat conversation with a customer service agent I told them if this tape wasn't applied when it was called for I would begin to consider ordering my backlight strips elsewhere. It looks like this time may have come.
I recently got a TCL 65S4 with bad backlights. After looking at the SJ listing here: https://www.shopjimmy.com/tcl-jl-d65...365as-m-led-ba...Yes0%1All backlight strips are the same quality0%1No0%0 -
by ckrtechThis is a cap on a motherboard from 1994. “Ark” is the only brand I know of that has an A inside a rectangle, but I wanted to run it by you guys and get any thoughts on quality.
Thanks in advance....1 Photo-

by momakaBoston Acoustics fans, this thread might not be for you.
A few years back (~2018 time frame), I picked up a set of free JVC speakers from someone on Craigslist that no one seemed to be interested in. The guy also had a single Boston Acoustics HD8 speaker – yes, just one cabinet. He said he had no idea where he got this one from or why it's only by itself. But like the JVC speakers, it was going to get tossed at the end of that week… so I came to collect, as usual. And that's all I know about this HD8. After all, I figured why not take it and see what's inside… show it to the...

by chth96I want to replace samhwa RG 250v 1uf capacitor which has no ESR value and has capacitance less than 280pf.
It is possible to purchase WCAP-ATG5 in local electronic shop.
But I want to know that whether WCAP-ATG5 capacitor has similar or better quality than smahwa capacitor or not.
Is there anyone who has experience to replace any bulge or faulty cap with cap from Wurth Elektronik?

by FZGHello!
I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.
Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.
I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?
Also, what mechanism is this?
Any feedback is appreciated!...05-06-2024, 07:16 AM - Loading...
