Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
I've never had trouble. I noticed theres some brand mis-matches in yours...or maybe you cooked a stick...but when it was here, it ran fine.... I didn't run them very long before the X8 motherboard came along. If the dropouts didn't cause instability or crashes, I may not have noticed.Leave a comment:

Holee Sheet!
Have you run them that hot w/o issue? I've read that the max case (of the hottest chip) temp is 85C to 95C.
That said the temps seem better on the "quiet" setting. I'll run that for now and see.
All I know is around 98 or so I had RAM dropping out.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
Shows temps for 4 of the 8 Modules.
V4.1 runs in superquiet mode... Even in superquiet it was a bit whiney from the PSU. The PSU is quieter when it's off (standby) but when running it climbs a bit. I hear the 920W fixed that issue but it's not worth $90ish to play with.Last edited by ratdude747; 07-11-2016, 05:15 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
I'm running mine in the 'superquiet' mode, its makes no more noise than any 'off the shelf' system. What util are you using that reports RAM temps? CPUID doesn't display that info.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
PSU and fans came in. The good news is that the temps are down... the bad news is it will still be loud... And you in the back whose screaming "look how easy my i5 was to set up and it's faster...", this thread isn't for you
New PSU:
New Cooler fans:
Fans installed (the front stickers don't match but they're the same fans):
Coolers installed:
Air dam installed, final shot of the guts:
Not sure if it shows, but the case included a molex extension that was perfect for zip tying to the USB 3.0 cable... less mess that way.
Butt Shot:
Front of the unit (yes the drive order is odd, it made the cable lengths work out better)
It's running cooler but on "superquiet" mode the temps are climbing a bit high... it's finally settled out with the hottest FBDIMM running at 89C. Not sure if it's bad as it's neighbors are running about 6C cooler:
What is a safe running temp for FBDIMMs?
I'm out of here for a bit... better reboot and turn up the fans a notch...Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
With cache it's the same, but these only have 256MB cache. CrystalDiskMark defaults to 1GB, so the cache fills up before the write is complete.Last edited by ratdude747; 07-05-2016, 02:27 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
Not bad numbers. Reads/writes across a raid0 should be similar to a raid10...maybe the controller overhead slowed it down....or maybe its not as similar as logic suggests it would be. Makes me wonder how this same config would perform with SSD's.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
Obviously RAID 10 doesn't read the same way RAID0 does. Assuming 4 drives on your end. I ask because technically one CAN read 4 drives in a RAID 10 at once in the same way you can read 4 drives in a RAID 0. Write, obviously not.
I'll probably go back to RAID 0 purely for performance reasons:
Yeah, awesome sauce.

Just for grins, this is what the Paxville system scored running the same tests:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
these use a 60mm fan. their stock fans are 8500RPM PWM's, but any 60mm would work. cover the shipping and they're yours (minus the fans of course).Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
Nabbed a 720W psu for $36. Put an offer on a pair of Dynatron H6DG's as Topcats have been robbed of fans and I'm not sure if I can find said fans by themselves.
Edit- yes I can, I had two offers competing on the coolers so I probably won't win (and if I do, it's still an ouch).

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
I've settled on the Dynatron H6DG as that's the only 2U cooler that's also a side blower that isn't going to cost $50 a cooler.
I'm exploring my options. I know topcat has a pair sitting but I don't know if they're for sale...Leave a comment:

PSU shopping:
Saw this, which is a pretty quiet supply:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SuperMicro-P...0AAOSw3YNXbUYy
(between the two 900W screamers and a dummy I have a handle or two)
However, this had a best offer, which I decided to make one of:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SuperMicro-P...torefresh=true
Only getting one since I really don't need two. Twin power cord was a waste... oh well, I may use it for the x3650 or something. Or leave it. IDK.
I think 720W is enough juice... I'd go with the even more efficient 920W (80+ platinum) but they're in the $85 range right now. A bit steep given the cooler situtation (looking for those next, maybe some dynatrons?)Leave a comment:

It gave me no trouble when I used it in the file server case, and that case probably doesn't breathe as well as the SM..Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
Case came in today. The good news is that it arrived in one piece and most of my stuff fit OK. But, there is some bad news to report:
-The air dam isn't compatible with my coolers. They're way too tall... and they're bleeping SM coolers too!
-Due to above, even with all the fans in the case (which were mostly blocked by the aforementioned coolers), the RAM was getting pretty hot... when I saw one get to 87C, I killed it. Either I get some 2U coolers or I hilljack a fan in there and pray it works... I'll look for coolers as unless I nuke an exhaust fan my only remaining fan hookup is on the other end of the board (across the top) and I'd have to make an extension.
-All of this was with the PSU fans blaring. Despite there being PCIe hookups this must be a server oriented case, as that was nearly unbearable. I've read the newer 920W units are a lot quieter, so I may save for one of those (two is overkill, as I've concluded).
Sorry topcat, but this was no free puppy... I knew that going in though.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's main rig V5.0
That's typical of Windows when you let Windows Update apply security fixes!
Especially Windows 10, it's common to get a message telling you that it's undoing changes and then Windows hangs at that message!
As soon as I see that message, I know I must reboot to Linux, wipe the drive and reinstall Windows. It means Windows fucked itself in the ass!
WSUS Offline, FTW! Because even Windows 7 fucks up too!Leave a comment:

by cheeky2I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection... -
by Dani_2024Hi and thanks in advance for any input you might provide!
I have a Sceptre U550CV-UMRD8POTV83BB 4K LED (this is a dumb tv) that I bought new in August 2021, so It's just completed 3 years.
Main power board model: TP.MS3683.PC821 T-Con board: N4TP546UHDPU2L_BO
Last Sunday I was watching a dvd and fell asleep for about half hour, when I awoke the tv screen was black and couldn't get the dvd menu to show, so I changed the input to antenna and had sound but no picture, turned it off. I then got online and found this great site! ....read many troubleshooting tips and this...5 Photos -
by ygorsanHi everyone,
Iām looking for help with a persistent issue on an LG TV model 55NANO77SRA, which uses the main board EBU66792103 (also used in LG UQ80 and NANO75/NANO80 series).
š§© Problem Summary:- The TV keeps scrolling through the menu or selecting items by itself.
- I removed the physical button board (the entire panel with power and volume buttons) and also disconnected the flat cable (CN202) from the main board.
- The remote control is not in use (batteries removed), and the TV still shows the same behavior.

by Asraf AtbHi everyone,
Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.
Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.
I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....1 Photo -
by JSin21Hoping someone here could possibly help. I have a few questions in regards to compatibility with main boards. But I'll give a quick short run down on what's going on first;
I have Samsung Smart TV UA65MU6100WXXY version DA01
Now years ago it started intermittently playing up after a lighting strike. Lighting hit the block of units i was living in at the time. Ever since that night the TV started having a mind of its own, It would randomly turn itself off or on, and all inputs stopped responding like HDMI, aerial, but USB still worked. Anyway, over the next few months...4 Photos - Loading...
