Hmm. Dual m.2 slots (wifi and ssd). Wifi wires included. Vesa mount. Not bad. I will need an hdmi to dvi connector though

Oh I found one with built in wifi (many of them only come with the wifi antenna cables and you have to install a mini m.2 wifi card).

What do you guys think? Its a mobile i5

i think your not thinking clearly.
you cant use wifi in a workshop, ignition systems and welders etc will jam it.

they currently have a usb extension cable, running up a pole with a duct taped up USB wifi adapter. No problems

I don't think they use arc welders

Got it. Mobile i5 broadwell. 24" samsung monitor with a back mount. But had issues installing on the 950 pro. Turns out it has its own driver for it's pci-express chip. Had to find someone who extracted the files so I could load them into windows 7 install

Re: Building an auto shop computer

I didn't have any usb issues. The usb was set to auto, which detects the current implimentation and switches. For instance it allows ehci on the windows install. The issue was never with broadwell, it was with skylake, which only allows xhci (yeah unless you impliment drivers on install boot). I found this out during a skylake i3-6100 build for a customer of mine. Luckily, the motherboard had a ps/2 keyboard/mouse combo, and I was able to go through the windows setup easily with just a keyboard. Unfortunately the usb install method did not work from my flash drive even with usb legacy mode on. Had to actually use sata otherwise it could not find source files. No problem with usb keyboard/mouse or usb install of the NUC

Re: Building an auto shop computer

i see a big problem you said that the nuc will be used in a workshop and there is a lot of dust and computers and dust don't go very well as in this case the nuc is not fanless and it has a small fan and heatsink that will be cloged with dust

Yeah I know it has a little fan assembly. But it's waay of the ground. Even the old computer didn't have mch dust and it was right near the floor

detecting heat with IR LED receiver

I have some dark IR led, and want to know if it is be situable to detect pure heat (not visable glow ir radiation) in well lighted desk?

So, if I put hand over it in near distance like few centimeters, that detect rising heat, not covering it from light.
Something like termal camera, but in one spot, any simple circuit?...

direct heat stencil, where do you get it? and how to prevent warping?
                        by myth77
So, lately i found that for smaller chips like pch it is very difficult to reball with nondirect heat stencil. So i decided to try direct heat stencils...and while i am waithing some stencils to arrive i have a few questions:

                        1. From who do you buy a quality direct heat stencils? i am reading that they can vary in quality and make a big difference...Any trusted sellers?

                        2. I am reading also the problem of warping (curving) direct heat stencils...Is it because of quality of the stencils? or/and because some preheating is also required? and help and advice here?

                        Question about heat
                        by bogosort
                        Hello,

I was watching this video in which he jumps the first two DC mosfets because he gets 0v after the first one.

However, when he looks at the board with his thermal camera, nothings heats up.

He then says that he expected something to heat up.

                        TLDR:
My question is, what does it mean if the vram around the GPU heat up after jumping the first DC mosfets?

                        Dissolve heat conductive cement
                        by CapLeaker
Well… I am working on a Catapillar ECU (70 pin). I managed to take the main board on the top off after repeated prying, but how in the effin world does the driver board on the bottom come out? There is too much of that heat conductive cement on there. It's hard almost like a rock. I guess it has a dual function, having thermal conductivity and keeping things planted due to vibration. Thought of putting Acetone in there, but then I don't know if any of the plastics are going to melt.

So how do I get that board heat conductive cement or whatever it is dissolved? Heat?

Car auto radio Alpine CDE-170R no sound
                        by elviscen
                        Hi to all,
Anyone have some advice what can be wrong if Car auto radio Alpine CDE-170R have no sound output?
All works fine, mute disabled, also change cables, ...
I connect it on my bench and connect new speakers, all setup on the Auto radio are correctly setup-ed, just no sound output.
                        Inside nothing burned.
Any advice what can be wrong?
Anyone have boardview and schematics for this Car radio Alpine CDE-170R?

                        Thank you.

                        Best regards,
                        Elvis C.
