    Losing Service on Galaxy SII

Hey guys, I know this isn't a cellular forum but a smart phone is a type of computer and you guys always have helpful advice!

So I have a Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 that I refuse to let go of. This phone is the perfect size, looks good, and has decent processing power. I have replaced the screen multiple times and also replaced the dock connector a few times (a $4 part), as well as the rear facing camera.

Now the problem that I am having is sometimes (It seems to happen a lot of the time when on Snapchat which is really hard on my data but is definitely not limited to Snapchat) my service will go from any amount, it doesn't matter if I have one bar or 4, straight to the no service circle with a line through it. If I leave it the service will usually return in less than a minute but sometimes it will take almost 2. This happens while texting or using Snapchat and will also just happen when I'm not using the phone. I am 100 percent certain it is not interference or bad signal because it will jump from full bars down to nothing and then back up to full without me touching it. Other cell phones on the same network do not have an issue.

At first I figured that it was just a glitch in the software so I reset the phone to factory but that didn't help because even while I was on Google Play reinstalling my old apps the problem came back. So then I looked to hardware which seemed likely because I have done so much work on the phone. I inspected the ends of the micro-coax cable which looks good on both ends. I also bent the gold contacts that connect to the outer housing of the phone outwards so that they make a stronger contact when the phone is together. I have also made sure that all of the screws are tight.

I have never seen this issue before and I would really appreciate any insight anyone might have because I really like this phone and it would be a shame to let it go after all the work I've done to it.

    Thanks

The phone does and always has gotten fairly warm when using data intensive applications even when it was new. It does not get excessively hot or any worse than it was when it was new.

You could try stripping it down you might be able to pinpoint a failing ic or bad solder joint by applying heat, cold and pressure to the board.

IIRC, the dock connector board includes some of the cell antenna connection; also, the board have a version number. The wrong version number (say, put in a V2.2 part replacing a V2.3) is known to cause cellular reception problems.

If you still have the original dock connector (usually only the usb port is what fails), you can test charging to 100% first, then replace for the old part, then test if the problem persist.

I have two TCL A30 phones.

Old Phone: This phone worked fine for years, then stopped charging If you plugged a charger into it, the phone would make the charging sound, the phone would tell you it is charging, but the battery icon would not have the charging symbol in it and the battery would not charge.I tried new battery, same behavior.

New Phone: Works fine, bought as a donor board to try and repair Old Phone

My interest here is to repair Old Phone, using components parts off New Phone if needed. I am not interested in replacing Old Phone with New Phone....

How to probe TP7002 for AP_PS_HOLD on SM-G930F?
                by R7027
In the service manual for Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F), step number four in the flow chart for troubleshooting power-on issue is to check the voltage level of a "signal".

I had a very hard time locating this. I didn't understand what it means to check for voltage of something by its signal name, and it's location was not described in the service manual (not that I could see in my four chapter excerpt of the complete manual). Then I learned that this signal name needs to be translated into a test point (TP) ID on the board. This is unlikely to be referenced in a service...
