• Re: Alternatives to Power-Z?

The idea of building something of my own sounds very tempting. I do have an Arduino Uno I could probably use for this. I will explore this later. Thanks for sharing! But what kind of device can do logging and graphing, that's not a USB meter? Something from makers of professional devices like Siglent or Rigol I presume.

I thought the suggested Fnirsi FNB58 was too expensive and it's PC software is not very good. It also seems to have too many functions, when all I need is a solid graphing function. So I ordered the Ruideng TC66C. I first found it here: https://www.cnx-software.com/2020/05/18/bluetooth-usb-pd-tester-connects-to-windows-and-android-ios-apps-for-data-logging/

I have received it and it seems like a good quality product, it's easy to use, not too many buttons and it does not have one million functions and twenty modes like this weird...

• Alternatives to Power-Z?

Hello everyone!

I am looking for an alternative to the Power-Z USB power meter, like the model KM001. Are there no alternatives to this? Other than other models from the same company? This is a very popular meter that repair pros use.

I have a very simple and inexpensive USB power meter. I think it costed around 20 - 30 USD. I'm looking to upgrade it to one that has the logging and graphing functions like the one I mentioned above. Something in the same price range of 80 - 100 USD. Any suggestions?

I actually have a DC power supply that has a USB port...

• Re: Paid for wrong boardview for Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F)

Hello again everyone!

I was doing some unrelated research and I came across what looked like this exact board. I thought I would stop by and share the details.

I am 99.9% sure now that this boardview file is for the Galaxy S7 Edge, and not the regular Galaxy S7.

According to GSM Arena, the S7 Edge comes in four different versions:

SM-G935F: Global
SM-G935FD: India and Southeast...

• How to probe TP7002 for AP_PS_HOLD on SM-G930F?

In the service manual for Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F), step number four in the flow chart for troubleshooting power-on issue is to check the voltage level of a "signal".

I had a very hard time locating this. I didn't understand what it means to check for voltage of something by its signal name, and it's location was not described in the service manual (not that I could see in my four chapter excerpt of the complete manual). Then I learned that this signal name needs to be translated into a test point (TP) ID on the board. This is unlikely to be referenced in a service...

• Re: Paid for wrong boardview for Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F)

I think the most disturbing and funny thing about this boardview file is that it has no R7027! That's another way to tell that the model (boardview) doesn't fit with the reality.

If you have the service manual for SM-G930F, one of the first things you're told to do when troubleshooting a power issue is to check the voltage of R7027. Which doesn't exist!?

Now you see it:

Now you don't:

How is that even possible? That makes the boardview incompatible...

Boardview not rendering correctly
The boardview I got is not only mismatching my SM-G930F board, it's also not rendered correctly. I think some of the deviations I mentioned previously may be due to bad rendering. But certainly not all of it is due to bad rendering. It's fairly evident that this boardview is for a different revision of SM-G930F (assuming it is for SM-G930F at all).

I have prepared another set of images so you can have a look. I used OpenBoardView...

Cheers to that! Happy new year!

You know, I really hope to be able to fix my old phone in the new year. With a little bit of luck, a lot of practice and learning, and a little bit of help from others I might get there....

Thank you so much! The schematics are proving useful already. Even though I hardly know how to read it. I did a quick Ctrl+F and found what I was looking for. Now I have to learn to read it and make sense of it. I was actually going to pay another guy to get the schematics. He would probably have given me the very same file or files. So you saved me a pretty penny, and I don't need to leave my credit card information, so that's another big plus. Thank you!...

I have pointed out the more obvious deviations. I have used the PCB diagram of the service manual for SM-G930F to compare it to the boardview file.

Thanks Alex, but I already have many copies of those files. At the moment, I am actually taking snapshots from the Tshoo (troubleshooting) file and editing and preparing it for my next post here. I will do a comparison between the PCB diagram of the service manual for SM-G930F and the boardview file that I purchased. (That's the same file that's offered free of charge on this site. This forum is very nice like that!)

But maybe someone can offer me the complete service manual for this phone?

• Paid for wrong boardview for Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F)

Hello everyone,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) that's not powering on, and I want to try to repair it. I'm not a repair professional and while I have learned quite a lot in the past two months when I started to learn and gather equipment, supplies and information, I still have plenty more to explore and much more to learn.

So I was looking for the boardview file for this phone the other day, and I thought found it on another site. I actually had to pay for it. I paid for both the BVR and the BVRE version. Then I found this site, and the same files can be downloaded...

• Re: Boardviews of some phones/tablets

So "BVRE" files have "BVR3E001" in the header and "BVR" files have "BVRAW_FORMAT_1"?

Name: BVRE
Extension: .bvre
Magic: 42 56 52 33 45 30 30 31
Magic ASCII: BVR3E001

Name: BVR
Extension: .bvr
Magic: 42 56 52 41 57 5F 46 4F 52 4D 41 54 5F 31
Magic ASCII: BVRAW_FORMAT_1

What is BVR2 header info? I'm just curious and I want to add it here for comparison and for posterity. I find this all very interesting, I'm more into this sort of...

I didn't know that. I was going by what's on the official website. So GitHub is the new homepage for the project? I guess I still won't be able to open BVRE files if "E" stand for "encrypted", but I will get the latest version nonetheless. Thank you!Re: Boardviews of some phones/tablets

I saw your announcement on Twitter and YouTube about added BVRE support to FlexBV. How are you able to open or decode these files if I may ask? I understand if it's a secret recipe. I was hoping you're using some open source component to pull that off. Either way, nicely done my friend!

Too bad I can't read those BVRE files with OpenBoardView, and I can't afford to pay for FlexBV for what is essentially a one man and one phone operation. I only need the boardview for Galaxy S7. I don't run a repair business, otherwise...

Hello,

I have already introduced myself in the appropriate forum section, but since hardly anyone reads that, I don't mind introducing myself again.

I have been learning, practicing, gathering equipment, supplies and information for the past two months. I came to this forum for the boardview files. I might stay for any help and advice I can get.
