    VP6 and Linux

Well....its been a couple months since I put Mandrake 10.1 on the one VP6. Its one of 4 machines on a Belkin KVM switch. I seem to have to reboot the LInux box at least once a week. I switch over to it and the machine is locked up. No OCing, no screensaver, no power saving stuff at all.

    Mouse and keyboard are USB.

The only thing running is RC5-72 from distributed.net.

I'm thinking that maybe Linux don't like the KVM...... :?

    Anyone have similar experiences????

linux works with my kvm perfectly... and if linux didn't like something, it would probably cause panics/oopses, not hard lockups.

Start with general troubleshooting... I assume you've checked the caps.

Check/swap ram, cards, power supply, etc...

LOL Check the caps Mikey!! HAHAHA

I actually had a similar experience with a KVM switch, until I got a nice Cybex. I'd switch it back to the Linux server (with the old KVM), and it would appear the system had froze, no KB or mouse. However, the system was a web server, and the sitte was still up, so I knew the machine was still alive. I'd get a PS2 KB & mouse for it, USB KB's and mice are a PITA as it is. Or try another KVM.

The caps "look" good, but its a refurb from Abit. I might just replace them just because.

I'm going to pull it off the KVM and just put a monitor and PS2 KB and mouse on it to see if it makes a difference. If it runs fine, I'll see how USB KB and mouse do. Should pretty much tell me where the weak link is.

Been busy with work so I don't have the time to put into this stuff that I'd like to.
