whatever the term, the spyware was pushed onto 7 and 8 in the recent updates.

i dont and never will run this shit, but any decent datacenter or server room should have inline firewall boxes independant from the main machines.
nothing stopping them packet-sniffing to verify one way or the other.

if i did run it, i woud stick an htpc with a couple of network ports on it inline and run wireshark on it.
    just to find out.

There is no pushing of updates on 7 and 8.1. The user or administrator is free to choose.

Those updates are all optional and as such a properly configured PC will not download or install them.

        Couple of thoughts,
        1. no one seems to recognize you could run Sandboxie on an old OS. I'm still trying to research what browsers attempted to code the feature into recent versions.
        2. as far as MS having nothing to gain I can only think REALLY???????
        3. I've read, and I believe, that as soon as the latest iteration comes out MS pushes crap in their updates to gunk up the OS behind. I know of updates messing with Office applications and am surprised more people don't bring up the subject. In comments or articles.

Not all of us have forgotten that the latest version of WMP for XP includes some very nice "vistafication."

M$ should only rot and die; the demented need to push windows fone on everyone and everything only shows how desperate they are.

With the "disguising," obfuscation, etc, of their stupid "updates," they're just giving their Stockholm-syndrome users a big middle finger- sadly, there are too many Patty Hearsts.

"Yes- M$ wouldn't be forcing this unless I needed it!" You "need" it like a hole in the head.

As I've said before, each inch they take, each step towards doom that doesn't bring criticism among discussions and forums, only enables M$ and furthers the brazenness.

XBONE would've been more of a newvista than it already is. There was outrage and backlash during the "pre-release" period of that platform; where's the same sentiment on the PC side?

See, people know exactly what to expect from M$- you never saw the excuses on the XBONE side. You didn't see any "it's not the final version, give it a chance" trolling like we did for vista/8/10.

Where did you get that from? We used Windows when I worked at the DOD (Dept. of Defense), any systems with truly "secure/restricted" data are completely isolated from the internet and any commercial networks, and protected with substantial physical security measures as well, so the OS is pretty much irrelevant on those systems from a security prospective.

I currently work for a major health insurance company and all of our desktops/laptops are Win7, our servers are a mix of Unix, Linux, Windows Server 2008r2, WAS (Websphere application server, IBM's virtual application servers that run the Mainframe), and Z/OS (IBM Mainframe).

Windows 2016 server L2TP/IPsec VPN - two subnets
                        by Fireballcz
Hello, please how to properly configure VPN in this environment?
I have two subnets in two different (geographical) workplaces, connected via IPsec (thru gateway routers)
Main subnet: 192.168.11.0/24, gateway (router IP) 192.168.11.1, Windows 2016 server (VPN, DHCP, DC etc.) 192.168.11.3
                        2nd subnet : 192.168.22.0/24, gateway (router IP) 192.168.22.1 - just client computers.

I need to allow external (home office) users connect via VPN server (192.168.11.3) to the 2nd subnet (192.168.22.0/24) to their computers (via RDP).
I have no problems with VPN connection...

What OS are you running these days? I am down to 3 Windows workstations and one Windows Server on my LAN, everything that doesn't have a windows-specific need has been moved to Linux. Printing abilities with my large document centers are Linux's kryptonite; the reason for 2 of the Windows machines. The third machine still has Win7 on it, and isn't connected to the outside world. It has tons of software on it I use for diagnostics and updating various hardwares. My main rig is still Win10 Enterprise, so I had to vote Win10 in the poll...but I have overwhelmingly more linux machines than windows...
