    Drive ejections?

    Hello Everyone,

I have two Samsung optical drives that are installed in two different PCs at my place. One is a Samsung SD-616E (unsure if thats the correct model) CD-R/W drive and the other is a Samsung DVD ROM drive that was salvaged from a Dell Optiplex PC about a year ago.
Strange thing about these two is that they will just eject themselves automatically without any human intervention. I've installed them in different PCs with the same effect.... they just eject whenever they feel like.
My came up with a theory today that maybe the eject buttons on the drives are faulty leading to this issue maybe?... but I can't be sure of that.
They both read discs very well and don't have any major issues apart from the random ejecting. I don't know what's going on so I've come to ask for some help here.... any ideas to what's wrong nwith my two optical drives? I'd hate to have to throw them into the bin because of this issue because they both read discs without a problem.

    Thanks.

    Re: Drive ejections?

sounds like the switch that detects if the tray is fully closed (don't know how it's called precisely) could be flaky.
that's the only thing that comes to my mind right now. they're more likely to open than the eject button to close intermittently.

Faulty / intermittent eject button contact or a program sending ASPI Eject commands: try loading cds with the cable detached (you can exclude software issues).

            oh well...

samsungs seem to have that problem rather often..

its the switch for the tray (like kikkoman said)

a bit of vibration (spinning CD/DVD) and whoops.. it opens up..
problem is.. sometimes the drive doesnt stop the CD/DVD before it ejects it

and its definitively the switch that detects if the tray is open/closed and not the "front panel" switch.

If the internal tray detecting switch is faulty, is there any possibility that I can fix it or am I screwed? I'd hate to throw these drives out because they costed heaps when first purchased.

I booted up my PC today and it ejected it self at POST so I can confirm it isn't a software issue. One drive is connected to an Exox 8K7A+ and the other is connected to an Asus P4P800S-X motherboard. Both run on ATA hard drives and not SATA or eSATA so it isn't a drive interface conflict issues.

              Thanks.

it's not a big deal... as long as you can find a new switch..

i made some pics of my TSST (Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology) TS-H352A (16x DVD 48x CD).. that had exactly the same tray problems..

                  Re: Drive ejections?

Hmm.... are those switches universal? What i mean by universal is do all optical drives have the exact same type of switch?. I have a whole batch of CD drives (none are Samsung) waiting for the tip, and I'm wondering if any of them may have a similar switch?

                  Thanks.

if those are whats in yours just spray some deoxit in them.
those are prone to tarnish inside.

Never heard of cokegift: I remeber Back Orifice, as this and internal Windows Messenger service were widely used at high school aeons ago

Well, what's the relationship with Stevo's drives? I don't think someone is joking with his computer.

I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...

                            by federalhouse
                            Hi everyone,

I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.

                            **Background:**

I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.

                            **What I've Tried So Far:**

So I've worked on dozens of HP and Dell laptops and have never encountered this before.
Steps taken in my usual process.
Reset security settings in the BIOS
Ensure existing HD comes up into the OS
Shut down the laptop and disconnected the main battery
Removed old M2 drive and replaced with a new 1tb Mushkin Temptest NVME drive. (I'm aware the bus is Sata III but the drive should still work at a slower speed right? Been my experience in other laptops)
Replace battery connector and close up the laptop
