Re: What's enhanced DPI with Laser printers?

Thanks for the informative response. I want to make sure I make the right decision here and not buy something that I'm going to regret. I can't get NewEgg to load, but the 279.99$ is the MSRP. I found out at BestBuy for 159.99$.

So in the long run, do I save more money buying toner cartridges that have the built in drum or do I save more money buy going for a laser that has a seperate drum / toner cartridges?

That Phaser really is high end! Even the toner is crazy expensive, albeit probably worth it from the sheer number of prints you get. I see it's now discontinued and the replacement is well over 2,000$!

Re: What's enhanced DPI with Laser printers?

If the choice was up to you guys, which one would you guys purchase? The first one I linked to or this second multi-function one?

      http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/Model...p#.Vli_NvmrTIU

I know it's expensive on Brother's website, but it's around 230$ on the net. The toner seems a little high, around 100$ for the colour ones (at staples) but I'm sure I can find it a bit cheaper on the net as well.

you can get brother stuff as much as half the price by not buying direct.

the one i got cost me something like £95, it was listed at £189 by brother.

Yeah, I hardly ever buy direct. I tend to buy stuff off other sites. NewEgg used to be a big one for me but now a days, sometimes I can find it cheaper else wheres. I tend to go where it's the cheapest. Surprising to me, I got a nice deal from Amazon on a micro soldering iron for my Weller WX2. Just wish I could find one of those 120 watt ones on there in decent shape for something cheaper than an arm and a leg, for the bigger components, you know?

Re: What's enhanced DPI with Laser printers?

Personally if i was buying a laser printer i would just buy a laser printer, no scanner, no fax no extra bs to break down.

This is mine, cost £10 with genuine toners.
              http://www.brother-usa.com/Printer/M...HL4150CDN/spec

Each manufacturer will have different toner yields. If their lasers are anything like their inkjets, HPs will come with some crappy low yield toner ensuring you buy a proper sized one soon.

              You might want to try

Not only that, some HP cartridges have a page counter chip in them and the printers can detect non-HP clone or recycled cartridges, as the chip used won't be OEM. It seems that they went the same was as Epson did and tried to lock things down.

                  brother do all that shit,
the inkjets come 20-25% filled with ink,
the regular cartridge is about 60% filed,
a completely full one is sold as "XL"
                  and they are all chipped.

                      We went for this one:

                      http://www.brother-usa.com/MultiFunc...w#.VljuCvmrTIU

Thanks for all the help guys! Total, the printer came to 434.48$. I believe it comes with standard yield toner and not starter one as well. If we go for official Brother toner, we're looking at 319.96$ for high yield. If we go for generic 4 pack high yield, we're looking at 64$ - 180$ roughly. I think that's pretty good. Now I've been reading that I should stay away from generic cartridges some what, but what about getting them refilled? Is that a bad idea with these toners cartridges? Thanks!
So I think we made a good choice here.

Yeah, I've ran into this with customers who tried using generic inkjet cartridges or tried refilling. Last person didn't print much and when he went to print, with an official ink cartridge, he got a nice error about how the ink cartridge was expired and it refused to print till he bought new ones. He just bought another printer.

i cant see why not technically,
but it can be very messy if your unlucky with the design,
and it may be fitted with an eeprom.

If there is a problem with warranty the first thing they will do is check for genuine toner. If it's not, warranty will be refused. Either buy the non genuine before you start and leave the genuine in the box, or don't worry about it, you'll have to print off loads before you get the toner low.

Refills are just the same as non genuine, but with the added chance of mess due to the filling hole.

probably a good time to say this:

if you spill toner on yourself or the carpet etc, wash it off with COLD water and soap.

toner is like black thermal glue, if you get it hot - it's there forever!

I saw someone talking about a service where you send out your empty one and they send you a refilled one. I was thinking of using something like that rather than refilling them myselves, if they're just as good as a new toner. I'm sure you could only refill them a certain amount of times. But even just refilling once would save a lot of money I'm guessing. Thanks for the info!

Okay. Might be worth just using genuine toner then. Brother's site said this model comes with a standard toner cartridge, not a starter. I'm hoping the one NewEgg sells comes with the standard as well. That'll give us a little bit of time to save up for the genuine stuff. I couldn't find a genuine 4 pack deal, so it looks like I might have to buy them individually.

Thanks Stj. Isn't the toner completely contained in the toner cartridges? Is this warning only for if I decide to try and refill it myself?

I remember when I was working at DCSI, there was a guy in a different department that, for one reason or another, thought he was a computer genius. The laser printer had a paper jam. I was a bit busy writing a program or something and said I'd be in when I was done. He decided that he was skilled enough to fix it himself. When I finally got around to getting to it, somehow he managed to get toner all throughout the laser printer. It was every where. It looked like it actually exploded. I don't know if he somehow managed to take the toner cartridge apart or what. It was on the desk, the floor, on him, etc. Such a nightmare! One of the other IT guys was there (he was from the backup building but would come over to talk and discuss various things with me). He said he would just decommission the laser printer and give them a replacement. The guy who ruined the laser got in a bit of trouble. Very frustrating.

yes, i'm refering to if you do a refill attempt - or move the printer on it's side etc by mistake.

toners should be kept level once you unseal them.

i would have taken that to the petrol station and tried to blow it out with the air line.

toners should be kept level once you unseal them.
Okay, thanks for pointing that out too! Didn't know that at all. I see the one we have is listed as being Linux compatible and it's wireless. I wonder how true this actually is. For example, can I scan from my Linux machine wirelessly? I know the wired and wireless print servers I bought for our piece of crap HP "worked" in Linux but only provided printing. No scanning. It'd be nice to be able to scan wirelessly from my Linux box.

Hello I'm a rookie tinkerer hopping to find some knowledge about these big color laser printers and copiers.

The specific model I would like to fix.
KONICA MINOLTA C250P this is the printer only version of the full office photo copier. I have a one of the full office copier version for part too (that one gives an error for the yellow laser).

I'm adding a link above to a picture of print out form the C250P with visible vertical lines of CYAN YELLOW and MAGENTA mostly on the right side of the 11x17 print....

Good day folks.....wow, seems like forever since I posted anything here Still alive and well, thank you I guess you could say I've become more independent and able to work stuff out on my own. This one though goes way over my head and I doubt is fixable, but maybe some bright spark out there has an equally bright idea.

So: my Hilti PD30 laser meter quit on me just the other day. It was working fine, I set it down for a while and when I tried using it again it gave me an E276 and wouldn't do anything else. I tried taking out the batteries, all that standard stuff but nothing...

Power DeWalt 12V laser measure from power supply
                                            by dansity
                                            Hello,
i got a Dewalt laser measure which uses the 12V batteries to operate. The laser measure is faulty and I want to attempt a repair, never fixed such thing before. You might see a different topic if I fail with the repair
However I do not have dewalt batteries nor want to buy one for 140EUR as the laser tool might have some chance that it is very hard to repair or unrepairable.
I want to power it from my PSU.
The tool has 3 input pins, on the battery it is marked with B-, B+ and ID/TH.
i want to know what is the third pin exactly and what do I need...

I would like an explanation of how a laser can measure a product on a conveyor belt
                                            by sam_sam_sam
                                            I saw this on

“How do they do it “

The laser was measuring the diameter and the height of the product and the weight of the product and it was a straight line laser light across the the conveyor belt ( this is all that was shown in the video clip of the laser that was used )

What type of product is this that can do this

I want to thank anyone that knows what of laser this is

Modifying a Engraving Laser Module with out a TTL Module
                                            by sam_sam_sam
I bought this laser module a few years ago and did not do anything with because I did not have a TTL module so it sat in project box to do something with at a later date

Well the later date has happened now

What I did to this module is disconnected the cooling fan and going to use with a fan temperature speed controller ( out of a surplus computer switching power supply )

Well now I have found a 15 watt TTL module that I just bought from AliExpress which I should have in a few weeks

Some time later when I have learned to use a laser engraver...
