    it thinks it's overheating.
    maybe a bad cpu connection?
    or a badly fitted heatsink?

Not overheating. it's not POSTing far enough to drop the fan speed; they spin them up high as fans won't start at low speed (static friction, etc).

Are all the caps good? PSU good? 12V+ connector plugged in?

some bios's start fans at the highest speed, and when it reaches a certain point in post, it slows them down to quiet them. If the post does not get to this point, they will stay at max. Check your memory, make sure there is no bad caps or something else to keep it from booting fully

Lenovo Legion T5-26AMR5 Desktop - Corrupt BIOS
            by grimacelord
            Hello there.

I am working on a Lenovo Legion T5-26AMR5 desktop that currently has a corrupt BIOS and I have been unsuccessful thus far in trying to fix it myself.

            History:

            1. This computer came to me initially with an error message that said "BiInitializeLibrary failed 0xc0000001" or "0135 fan error". It would always be one of the two errors. It should be noted that when it produced the fan error, there was no physical problem with the fans. They were all spinning just fine.

I searched for this error online and discovered...

Lenovo Ideapad S400 turns off when booting into any OS desktop
            by keepread
I've been using this laptop for quite some time w/o battery. It has Linux installed. Recently, someone sent me a web link in an instant messenger. When I clicked on that link the laptop turned off that instant, before the browser even loaded to open it. Since then it turns off several seconds after I start it up and log into the Linux graphical desktop. I can see the mouse cursor moving around the screen when I draw my finger on the touchpad or move the mouse, and then a terminal window begins to load because the desktop autostarts it from last time, and then I hear a pop from the speakers and...
