Lubuntu 15.4 my new fave distro.

Now that I've overcome my optical drive foibles, I am loving Lubuntu.

Small load size fits on a CD. Fast loading of the OS. If you are dual-boot, the GRUB menu shows up (a problem with Linux Mint). Not as pretty as Ubuntu 9.4,9.10, 10.4 & 10.10 but you can always change the wallpaper. Best of all it's really quick on my socket A boards. Blessedly there is no Unity desktop.

Had no sound on first boot, but googled the solution and installed 2 packages and all is well.

I missed some functions of the "old" Ubuntu, which was a 10/10, but I would call this 8.5/10.

The "old" Ubuntu I was referring to, were the 9.4 through 10.10 versions which
fit on a CD and were not bloated. I found those versions very efficient on my socket A boards, and elegant too.

I think Canonical has to make Ubuntu look sexier than Lubuntu to try and get users to adapt to the Unity desktop. I believe the switch to the Unity desktop moved a lot of users over to Linux Mint.

You don't have to have Unity as your desktop you can get the gnome 2 classic flashback desktop, but i prefer the efficiency of UNITY then other desktop, i don't go by how it looks but how good it works and Unity is very good, better then any other desktop, and i tried them all,but i stick with Ubuntu and Unity and i have been free of issues since then maybe 3 years that i use Ubuntu and Unity and never ever had an issue.

I don't give a hoot what desktop people want to use. With Linux you've got a lot of choices. Use what you like best.

i don't use a Desktop. I use a WM called Window maker, That's the best way to go IMO.

hmm, personal post #2408... im seeing that number a lot today.

              by reddevil156
              Hell everyone,

I have a All-In-One PC on my table which has suddenly a startup password which is unknown. I have no access to the bios or any boot medium.
After dissassembling the device I checked online to find some information about it but it seems to be a cheep chinese version and imported to the german market.

I give you all the information I have and hope that someone can help me to retreive the password out of the dump or patch it. Any other help is also much appreciated.

Requests to Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux Ubuntu x86_64
              by tsavpyn
              Dear all,
I forgot my BIOS password of my Surface Pro 3, I searched for solutions for a long time and knew that by using FPT to dump my bios to bin file and using decryptor, I can get my BIOS password.
Now I have a problem that I am unable to dump my BIOS into bin file.

My Surface Pro 3 currently runs on Ubuntu 22.04, with Secure Boot enabled and Boot From SSD Only.

I searched for FPT but there is no Linux version and none of them work.
I hereby request a copy of Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux x64.
I would really appreciate it if anyone...

Evaluating Mechanical Hard Drives SMART Data in Linux (Ubuntu) Using the Disks Utility.
              by abajor
I've gotten into the habit of Looking at peoples Mechanical Hard drives with a Ubuntu thumb drive to boot their system.
I understand the raw values are not really uniform between manufacturers, but I have noticed that high seek and read error raw values at the very least correlate to a drive that is going to have sub par access time, and extremely slow OS booting.
The odd thing is I've often seen very high seek and read error rates on drives with fairly low on time.

Does anybody have any other takes on evaluating smart data? I've used Crystal Disk Info, It seems to present...
