I can't stand Vista, but unfortunately I think I'm going to be stuck with it for an HTPC OS. XP Media Center doesn't support Blu-Ray or HD-DVD without some hacking.

There are media centers for Linux, but none of the ones I've tried really work worth a damn. And if XP doesn't support HD, then Linux sure as hell won't. Hopefully things will change before I do the upgrade to HD.

You are using IE, like it or not.

There is a reason why software such as Quickbooks, etc, etc, all require a recent version of IE: they use all the IE DLLs that are integral with Windows.

Linux does not and cannot use windows dlls. Quickbooks will not run in Linux.

The only reason that I keep any Windows machines around is because I spent money on the operating system, and I haven't found a good replacement for the Nero DVD creating software.

I do not use IE, even on windows boxes, except once - to download Firefox.

There is a Linux version of Nero Burning ROM. Maybe that is good? I know that the initial version was a little buggy, however they should have sorted out most of the kinks by now.

I just looked on Nero's website and the Linux version of their software is in its third version. You can try it out with their demo version.

Fedora 8 here. Fedora 7 on the server (router / file sharing box). Fedora 7 on my laptop. No Windows installed at all.

Looks like there'll be a Linux runtime for this new Microscre, er, Microsoft content.

Xcdroast = One of the best burners for Linux out there if you want to live with a SCSI burner.

I said DVD CREATING software. Not DVD burning software.

I have Nero Linux installed, it is similar to the Linux program K3b. K3b is free and Nero isn't, so I'll stay with K3b for now.

Nero Linux does claim to have Linux support for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs. If I ever get one of those burners, then Nero Linux would be a must.
