      This might help

How did you install ubunto - may have to reinstall it?

I think overall the idea is to have it set to boot to ubunto drive in the bios and
then there is something called GRUB?? which then finds window and gives you an option to boot to either. Alternative is to write something into windows which
asks if you want to use windows or ubunto. I have not done this though many years ago we had a PC that we could boot to Win2000 or Win XP and a screen came up with a choice (a bit like F8 choices)

I Had Xubuntu 14.04 installed long time ago and just installed Win Xp on another HDD,and made the right connection, i was surprised that i only had to do Xubuntu Update and grub update and so far no problems, when i boot it goes to a screan that gives me the choice of Xubuntu or WinXp ,if i don't choose it boots strait to xubuntu after a few seconds,it's the same as you install in the same HDD windows first then you install xubuntu last and linux grub will make it automatically, which is pretty cool you don't have to do a thing.

OK, so if I understand correctly, you're using IDE hard drives, had Xubuntu on what used to be the only drive, then put a hard drive with Windows in the slave spot. Then, it kept booting from the master (Xubuntu) drive, so you did update-grub to make it find Windows?

In any case, at least you got it working.

failing hard drives after sitting for years...
              by eccerr0r
With the discussion about water pumps failing when cars sit for a while, I wonder what people have seen with hard drives. Do people see hard drives failing after being sat on the shelf for a long time unpowered versus a hard drive that's at least powered up at least once in a while, say, weekly?

Wonder if it's worth spinning up the spare spinners once in a while to keep the bearings lubricated?

Wonder how I should best keep my cold spares for my RAID "fresh" for eventual failures of the working drives. Was thinking about keeping a hot spare but that's another...

Nintendo Switch Oled HEG-001: Second-Stage Boot Failure
              by privato89
              Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with a HEG-001 motherboard that is unable to complete the Second-Stage Boot. I'd like to start directly with my conclusion, which is the decision to replace the MAX77621AEWI chip, and understand if it could be a correct evaluation.

Before I dive into the process that led me to this decision, I want to mention that I have a fully equipped lab where I can perform any kind of tests.

              Let's begin:

Following some guides online, I tried to understand how the Boot phase of the Nintendo Switch works, and what are the...

Xiaomi router freezes at boot after re-capping
              by hinisa
I'm using Xiaomi Router 4A gigabit edition as wireless repeater. It worked fine for 2 years or so, but last week, wireless started to disappear.

When I unplug/replug the power, it was working fine for a day/half a day or so until it freezes again.

After testing with different power supply adapters and concluding it wasn't the issue I finally opened the case and this was the situation:

Anyway I proceed to clean up the mess and replace all caps but unfortunately it made the situation worse. Now router can't even boot, either it freezes during...

A1989 EMC3214 can't boot to USB drives due to T2 but SSD can't be initialized and Macbook freezes then reboots in recovery
              by MullySculder
Hey folks, I'm working a 2018 13" Macbook Pro that I can't get to install an OS on.

This was given to me by a friend who told me I could have it, if I fixed it.

I've noticed a couple of dents on the laptop case and the touch bar doesn't have any activity lights when first turning on. When I boot up the machine, it gives a folder with a question mark. When I do eventually get to internet recovery with High Sierra, I can go to Disk Utility but I'll get errors when I try to erase the 512GB SSD. First Aid comes back with no issues. But if you linger too long on anything,...
