    windows 8 key embedded in the bios of a windows 7 compaq presario cq57

    can i download windows 8 and use the key in the bios? i'm guessing this is because the laptop was made in 2012 just before the release of windows 8.
    Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

    If it originally came with 7, then no, it won't have a hate product key in the BIOS.
    I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

    No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

        well its written like an 8 key but it doesn't work and it doesn't seem to work with 7 either!

          It's probably a SLP OEM key, if that's the case it will only work on a manufacturer's install disk (or one that's been modified).

                Not true, you can use any Microsoft media disc, as long you know the OEM SLP Product key which can be obtain here.

                But also you need SLP windows 8 slic table in the bios for it to work and links I posted above only work for vista or 7.

                    Is this from your laptop?

                    It looks like it already has msdm and the slic in it, technically your "BH3RN-B7FDM-C7WGT-4CR4X-6CKHM" Might be the key for windows 8.



                    EDIT: looks to be a dummy key, it was found in 6 different HPs, a Dell and acer.
