    New build questions

I'm building a new system based on the Asus Rampage IV Extreme. I've got it water cooled so no air blowing on the ram directly. I've got 64 Gb of G.Skill installed with heat spreaders. The case has 1 120MM fan blowing in and two sucking out. 3 80 MM blowing in and two sucking air out. The power supply pulls in outside air and blows it out the back so no help there. The memory came with two fan kits to blow air down on the ram but I can't use them because the video card is two close to the side of the ram.

The question is with no overclocking of ram will this be enough? If and when I overclock would it help to get this on each ram stick http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233033 . Or does someone know of a fan kit that attaches to the side of the ram modules.

    Re: New build questions

RAM doesn't use much power, 2-5 watts per module. Only about 1-2 watts are wasted as heat, which are easily dissipated by the heatsinks. They can also run for long periods of time at 70-90C without being damaged, so just because the heatsinks are hot, it doesn't mean it's a bad thing, it's just the heatsinks working just fine spreading the heat.

The airflow inside your case caused by those 120mm fans should be good enough to keep your memory running just fine.

If you plan to overclock them, it wouldn't hurt to have a fan in the vicinity blowing towards them.
