If you keep getting that connect/disconnect sound in Windows, that's a very clear indication of cable going bad. I've seen this many times with cheap and/or mistreated USB cables.
Like this?

If yes, those are amazing mice IMO. Not very high resolution, but they are very accurate and roll very smoothly due to their larger diameter pickup rollers. Only downside is lack of scroll wheel. The slightly newer model, the M-S69 is a little more curvy and has a scroll wheel. It's my favorite mouse of all time for sure.
That's a really reliable mouse, but very cumbersome to hold IMO. It also has tiny pickup rollers inside, so accuracy is horrible. It gets even worse when a bit of dirt accumulates on the rollers. Since they have a small diameter, the mouse often starts to "click" or "skip" in certain patterns.
I only keep them for spare buttons.
Same here. I also like the predictability of ball mice when you lift them off the mouse pad. The good ones will stop moving, just the way it should be. Can't say the same for laser and optical mice. Most tend to jiggle for a bit.
The oldest hardware I have that I still use is an HP-branded Trinitron A4032A 17" CRT monitor. Made in Japan, built in 1994 - built to last!
