bad cmos battery = no display?

OK this is a WTF moment my laptop display quit working so it got opened it up and reseated everything except the CMOS battery and it didn't work, so i opened it up again and in the proses i lost the original CMOS so a new one got stuck into the laptop and it works now! so did the new battery fix the issue and if so could a dead CMOS battery be the cause of the "dead" displays on some of the laptops that i repair at work?
Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

I doubt that the battery removal did anything but reset the motherboards' BIOS settings to default. Perhaps the bios had become corrupted and could not POST because of that ? A CMOS reset was perhaps all it needed.

You are welcome.. For related interest.. I just got a desktop in that the guy had removed a third party graphics card from because it failed. He tried using the motherboard's onboard VGA but it would not boot, so he brought it in.
Of course, the BIOS was set on using the seperate card and had no fall-back setting to use the onboard if the seperate card was missing.
A BIOS (CMOS) reset did the trick.
