    RANT: Dell Latitude Volume buttons

The print on my Dell Latitude's volume buttons wore off today... and I recently replaced the hinge cover that includes the buttons a month ago. Brand new replacement too, sealed in OEM part bag.

It's odd... the stock buttons and the new one both did the same thing. excess wear on the volume up key, less wear on the power/ volume down buttons... and virtually no wear on the mute button. All 4 see about the same amount of use too...

      Off Topic!

But to answer the question anyway... the HP is doing great. It's my "lazy laptop" (when I don't feel like unpackign my D630).

        Lol

The buttons really should also have an indent in the plastic, which can be painted in. That will keep the paint from rubbing off for a long while.

Is it at least a real volume control, or is there some special software that needs to run in order to adjust the volume using the buttons? I'm guessing it actually has some kind of hardware volume control since you use Linux.

SW. Standard type volume keys so linux already has a mapping for them.

That's not bad. My old HP laptop used a key combination and really buggy software. If the CPU was under any load at all, entering the "volume up" key combination causes the volume to slowly increase to 100%, and then the volume can't be changed for a while after that. The length of time that the volume couldn't be changed depended on CPU usage. If the CPU usage was 100%, you would be unable to change the volume for a couple minutes.

I don't know why the buttons would wear unevenly.
