Which of these cards is better?

    Hi,
I built a secondary PC, in addition to my main one.
    Here are the specs:
-Intel Celeron G540 Sandy Bridge 2.5GHz Dual Core CPU LGA1155 (new)
    -MSI MicroATX Motherboard (new)
    -8GB DDR3 RAM (new)
    -500GB Hard Drive (reused)
-CM 430 Elite case (reused and modded, more on that later)
    -Seasonic 300W PSU (reused)
    -SATA DVDRW (reused)

Anyway I'm wondering which of these two cards would overall be better:

    SAPPHIRE Ultimate Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (100326UL)

    EVGA 02G-P4-2645-KR GeForce GT 640 2GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

They'd be close, but I'd probably get the GT640.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Main PC: Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz, Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP, 8GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600, 240GB Intel 335 Series SSD, 750GB WD HDD, Sony Optiarc DVD RW, Palit nVidia GTX660 Ti, CoolerMaster N200 Case, Delta DPS-600MB 600W PSU, Hauppauge TV Tuner, Windows 7 Home Premium

    Office PC: HP ProLiant ML150 G3, 2x Xeon E5335 2GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB Intel 530 SSD, 2x 250GB HDD, 2x 450GB 15K SAS HDD in RAID 1, 1x 2TB HDD, nVidia 8400GS, Delta DPS-650BB 650W PSU, Windows 7 Pro

Re: Which of these cards is better?

It's probably slightly more powerful. The HD6xxx series are a previous generation, and the GT6xx series are current. I'm guessing that both would have been about as up-market as each other, so it's either a current mid-range card (the 640) or a previous generation mid range card (the 6670)

Re: Which of these cards is better?

          I'd say neither of those.

The price is too high for the performance of the video cards, they're both relatively slow.

          It's much slower than the 6670: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5969/z...-640-review-/9
Even though the GT640 is newer, it's just slow due to too many things cut out of it - probably it's fault chips nVidia managed to recover by disabling portions of it.

At that price you can go for a 7750 which is a bit faster:

          http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131481
          http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102969

If you want to save money, you could go with this at 74$:
          http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102992

The ddr5 memory on your choice won't give that much performance increase compared to this version with ddr3, to be worth the extra 15$.

Ok so you think your suggestion http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102969 is better then both that I listed?
            Thanks

Re: Which of these cards is better?

It's better than both in the first post, especially at games. At under $100, 7750 is about the best bang for buck.

If it's just going to be used for watching movies and windows desktop stuff, even a 5450 would be enough and that's around $25... the 5450 is pretty much at the performance level of onboard video cards (780g chipset and family, intel hd3000 etc)

Well why would I buy a 5450 then? Already have Intel integrated graphics!

Re: Which of these cards is better?

You would buy one if you get a system

                    *without integrated graphics or
*if your $3-400 card dies and you need something temporary until the next month when you get your paycheck or
*if you need a system with multiple monitor support.'
*if you may want to do some hybrid crossfire with the onboard video card (for example with 880g chipset board)

Depending on chipset, some intel motherboards don't support the video card that's inside the cpu, other chipsets can only do dvi/hdmi or vga but not both so a 25$ card is an easy way to add second monitor support (or even support 3 with some cards)...

They have their place on the market.

Those games pretty much any card will play them.
Minecraft is 2D and GTA San Andreas is DirectX 7 i think.. any card can do that game, even the crappiest onboard video card of today.

Hmm well that is a good point. Minecraft is a bitch because it's picky about drives and requires a lot of graphics and processor to run well, (thanks Java, lol!)...

I'll try it on the integrated but I doubt it's gonna be so great

nope. most of that java is CPU ran. I had my cousins kid with a DV...5 I think. I forget, but it wasn't a DV 6000 or 6. Anyways, it had ati graphics, minecraft ran slow, I checked the CPU usage and it was 100% all the time. Java is mostly CPU ran

your APU will do just fine

if you want a cheap video card to run those, get a geforce GT 610, seriously SA ran decent on my geforce 3

Do you sometimes use Linux? Then any ATI/AMD Radeon card isn't what you want. They have horrible Linux drivers, and no better than using the old Intel i915 family of video drivers. Using nVidia cards is the only way to go in Linux, as they have a wonderful Linux driver. The game platform Valve has been working on a Linux version of Steam, and had just released it's beta version to the public. Because of Valve's interest in Linux, both Intel and nVidia have done improvements in their graphics drivers.

equal to about the GTX 470. You should be able to play a hell of a lot more than gta:SA on that.

get steam. buy some games. or pirate them, whatever. I would recommend the fallout series, but not for pirating, zenimax goes after downloaders ISP's

                                          I have a Lenovo MIX 320-10lCR computer.**
                                          1. **Operating System**: Windows 10 ** Education** 64-bit.
                                          2. **User Account Restrictions**: The account I'm using has heavily restricted permissions via **UAC** and **Group Policy**. This means I cannot install any software without admin rights, adjust system time, run Command Prompt as administrator, or modify the registry via Regedit—all are blocked.

Lenovo T14 (AMD, gen1) over-voltage protection IC keeps dying.
                                          by wrobbie
My T14's (NM-C801) main USBC input keeps failing every few months. Initially, it worked fine for several years. The symptom is that once powered from the main USBC port using a 65W power brick, after some time (minutes, hours) charging will fail completely. Powering from the secondary (docking) USBC input still works. This laptop is basically always plugged in. The first time it happened, it took me a long time to find that the FPF2281 over-voltage IC for that USBC input was at fault. When the issue occurs, it will continuously reset power delivery negotiations with the power brick -- according...

New project for a Lipo4 based battery pack for a battery backup that I found an enclosure from Battery Hookup

Right now Battery Hookup has these e-bike battery packs that are used but I am going to remove them and test them and see how good they are and maybe resell or reused them for another project this is for another day

When I get the rack mounted enclosure that I mentioned in another post I will see how well they fit in the enclosure and how much room I will have left

These battery packs are a little bit hard to get out of the enclosure because they were a little bit glue...

Hello, for almost a year i been trying to make something that seems impossible, or my testing software is lying to me and it works only i can't see that.
I been trying to mod a memory on radeon hd7790 or 260x from 2 to 4 gb, but it doesn't seems to be as simple as i first thought.
In theory 2 workstation graphic cards using the same graphical processor have 4gb of memory firepro w4300 has 4 256x32b layout and W5100 has 8x 128x16b layout all use gddr5 memory and internals of the bioses seems to be very similar so i was trying to wing it , but so far it seems either tserver can't show...
