Re: LINUX op
You can open pdf files using various linux programs, doesn't have to be adobe made (acrobat or whatever).
Ubuntu and other Linux operating systems have application managers where you can just search for "pdf" and it will give you lots of apps that do something with pdf files, like viewing, converting to another format etc
There's LibreOffice for example which is just like MS Office and can also read pdf files.
Foxit pdf reader has a version for linux as well: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/desklinux/
I personally use the portable version of SumatraPDF but this one is Windows only as far as I'm aware.Comment

Re: LINUX op
Linux Mint 14 should have everything you need in it.. It'll open Adobe-made PDF's, any kind of MS Office Doc, etc.. If you need java search for openjdk. Ubuntu 8.10 is VERY old and unsupported now, Mint 14 is Ubuntu + the things needed to make it a generally usable desktop.. I suggest the Cinnamon version, MATE if you have graphics issues.
(Sorry guys been kinda busy, but felt I should chime in..)Comment

Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon: http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=117
Universal USB Installer: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloa...er-1.9.2.1.exe
There you go, the link you posted is for MATE, btw.. what GPU does your system have?Comment

Re: LINUX op
That tells me your CPU, not GPU (Graphics Card)... The only reason I ask is that you'll have to install additional drivers (VERY EASY) if you have an Nvidia or ATI/AMD Graphics Card in your computer, otherwise you're fine, and either version of Mint will work great.. use MATE if you have an Nvidia or ATI/AMD GPU...Comment

Re: LINUX op
Download Universal USB Installer from the link I provided, launch it, follow the instructions. (Choose Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon from the list, select the letter of the USB drive from the list, etc.. hit next, wait.. done.)
Hope that helps,

Re: LINUX op
Thanks Sansui350. i downloaded from the link you supplied the down loader but i got 7zip with also Yahoo and some other crap like Yontoo.1.10.04,that i had to restore and repair system. is this what i supposed to get,and the linux mint link has a few primary and secondary mirrors that i don't know which one should i get,
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/univers...easy-as-1-2-3/
I don't know what you got that wanted to install 7zip and some Yahoo crap. I thought that maybe the installer had that in it to. Free apps will do this as a way to generate some income. I never do an automatic install, and always select the "Custom Install" option. This way I can un-select unwanted crap.
I did download the USB Universal Installer from that site, and ran it. I use Linux and ran it using the Wine application, but it doesn't appear to be an installer. It seems to be the application self-contained, no installation needed.
As for what mirror to download Linux Mint from, choose one close to you, like "USA".Comment

Re: LINUX op
For the Universal USB Installer, the direct link to the file doesn't seem to work. Go to the page for the application (containing the instructions), scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "Download UUID" button.

Here what it says .
Note: Please take note that this item can be used in DOS, MAC, and Linux. But first we need to set the key assignments in the Windows system, set the keys you need to use, then you can use this item in Linux system. Our hardware is supported the OS systems mentioned above, but the software is not compatible.Comment

Re: LINUX op
It says that you must first run the Windows software and set up the shortcut keys it will use. It must save that info in the device, otherwise it wouldn't transfer to Linux.Comment

by tsavpynDear all,
I forgot my BIOS password of my Surface Pro 3, I searched for solutions for a long time and knew that by using FPT to dump my bios to bin file and using decryptor, I can get my BIOS password.
Now I have a problem that I am unable to dump my BIOS into bin file.
My Surface Pro 3 currently runs on Ubuntu 22.04, with Secure Boot enabled and Boot From SSD Only.
I searched for FPT but there is no Linux version and none of them work.
I hereby request a copy of Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux x64.
I would really appreciate it if anyone...-

by keepreadHi all,
Where can I find the mysterious 'eeprom' kernel module that some use under Linux to read/write SPD?
I installed 'i2c-tools' and got 'decode-dimms' tool under Debian but not under Fedora, but both of them are missing the 'eeprom' module.
Also tried the SPD.exe tool from EVGA, which correctly lists all of the DIMM slots but reads zeroes from all of them.
Basically I need to dump SPD from some modules that were sold to me as DDR-1866 but are made of DDR-1600 chips, and they do not work. There is no access to RAM clock rate in the BIOS, so I am SOL unless I can rebin...-

by televizoraAfter installing Java Runtime, I have some strange errors on some of my computers. Windows Explorer becomes unresponsive and then strange message pops up claiming that too many 16 bit programs are running.
There aren't any 16 bit programs on these computers. The OS is Windows 7 x86 SP1 fully updated. There aren't any 16 bit programs running, nor installed. No active instances of NTVDM or anything like this. Seems like it's a problem with UAC/consent.exe/ when trying to elevate the execution of certain programs. But the information about the issue is scarce. Is there anybody around here who...-
