Re: AC/Input Filter
I've seen power supplies with high-value safety-certfied resistors between Live/Neutral and the chassis, and a few with one between the -ve of the input capacitor and the chassis.
In these cases, they were in parallel with a safety-certified capacitor. My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.Comment

Re: AC/Input Filter
Adding to my previous post, I have read from IGT that there is a load limit on AC filters, and any load greater than the rating on the filter will degrade it (make it less effective). My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.Comment

by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

by cheese007Recently acquired one of those silly Logisys acrylic power supplies and lucked into getting one of the "better" ones (most of an input filter, bridge rectifier instead of 4 diode treatment, OK-sized heatsinks, etc.) and wanted to fill out what I can on the board + get some decent caps on there (especially the primary side since I highly doubt the ones in there are actually 1000uf). My questions are:
1. How do I know what components to install re: the input filter? It seem to be missing an X cap, a resistor, and a Y cap.
2. Where can I find a good heatsink for the bridge... -
by ugamazingSo, I have a really bizarre issue that I'm struggling to identify the cause of. Working on an 820-02020 board with some bizarre keyboard/input-source character mapping. My suspicion is a possible damaged SPI ROM (U1970), perhaps, but I'm really not sure in this case:
1. The issue is pretty weird, but when installing MacOS, I noticed my WiFi password did not work. I quickly realized the special characters (!@#$%^& etc) were not mapping correctly.
2. I noticed the keyboard layout/input-source is defaulting to JAPANESE every single time I restore the board. I am not... -
by itheHi,
This online UPS is not detecting Mains 220V AC input, by observation I found a SMD Capacitor (C6 which responsible to operate the relay next to R27) is burnt in 220VAC high cut - low cut filtering PCB.
Please share me a suitable capacitor value for this circuit.
Thanks...07-19-2024, 01:59 PM -
by flibidyI have here a Magnum IA.100 which belongs to my parents.
The unit powers on & when the relay kicks in, you get a pop from the speakers (this might sound weird but is usual behavior for this amp). However, you get nothing coming through it from any of the inputs & no pops and crackls from any of the controls.
Because of the sound from the speaker when the amp turns on I have assumed that the output section probably works but I could be wrong & I'm not sure how to test that side of things further.
