    USB Sticks "not persistent"

I was trying to load a Linux Mint ISO using DVD ROM and it was just not working. My bad, it turned out I had forgotten to put a terminator on the back of my SCSI card.

Before I figured that out, I decided to use a USB stick I had previously loaded with Ubuntu 12.4. I tried it on a whole bunch of newer machines, no go. Always the message suggesting it couldn't find location xxxx.

So I decided to reburn the ISO to the memory stick. I found http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744. I downloaded Image Writer from the repository. It took me a few tries to see that you must rename the .iso to a .img, after that I successfully "burned the stick" and it worked.

In the text he refers to USB sticks not being persistent which means the files on them degrade after a time. So if you see that location message you know the stick needs to be refreshed!

Persistent just means you can save stuff to the usb stick.

It creates a partition of the size you choose to save things like settings so you dont have to re-do them next time you boot from usb.
Do NOT touch heatsinks when testing for voltages as they may be LIVE!
