Re: Retired with Honors - Inspiron 5100 Laptop
****, my bad. I re-read and still didn't see what is confusing about it. Have you guys heard about the blinking lights on the inspiron 5150 ? The culprit could be the motherboard or the graphic card due to the poor design of the cooling system. I opened one up and now the lights don't even blink anymore.Comment

by 13mh13Laptop: Dell 5100 (2003). Note this is a different 5100 than the one I posted about in the 5100 memory/RAM thread elsewhere on Badcaps. I bought this (2nd) 5100 from local thrift store, for parts or possible full repair. I have no clue as to its history.
When the pwr button is displayed, I should get the BIOS bootup screen (there is no HDD in this laptop). But I get a fuzzy, distorted screen:
It should look like this:
I'm getting no LED (coded) error message, and the other functions like battery charge... -
by 13mh13Here's my device:
LAPTOP: Dell Inspiron 5100 (2003) 2.4Ghz p4, dual-boot: Windows XP pro, sp1 + LinuxMint ( LM 17.1 MATE ), with 128GB ssd, 512mb ddr sodimm.
The 5100 runs fine, even after 19 years of daily, gentle use, "always on", and on adapter power only.
HOWEVER, over the past 5-6 years there has been a restart-up issue (after power down or power loss --- I leave all my PCs/laps in daily use in ALWAYS-ON condition, even going months w/o re-boots, but the inevitable always happens) .
Seconds to few mins after pressing the power button to restart... -
by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:
