    @999999999

    Good point.
    Like I said, there is nothing. Completely dead- no beep code. You mentioned non-manufacturer,do you know what a manufacturer would do in this case? I guess they have a special equipment for this board?

    Yes, but your question surprised me. In general, mb should boot up fine without anything but a processor connected to them. Maybe, there is something that I don't know?

    Re: Cheap Laptop

    I was not much into hardware until one or two years ago. But since I have started to fix computers the one brand I have fix the most is hp. You told me to search the forum which I did. I did find bad and good things about Asus. For example, one poll shows 10 dislike and 19 likes, couple of posts said that Asus lied about bad capacitors years back, and some said their RMA is bad, too. For me personally, I would go, in order, from Asus, Toshiba, to Thinkpad over any brands. Why? honestly, other than this forum, I have heard nothing but good things about Asus. To back...

    ****, my bad. I re-read and still didn't see what is confusing about it. Have you guys heard about the blinking lights on the inspiron 5150 ? The culprit could be the motherboard or the graphic card due to the poor design of the cooling system. I opened one up and now the lights don't even blink anymore.

    dead mb

    Guys,
    I have a question for you. Let say I have a motherboard that is completely dead. There is no sign of bad caps,burned diodes or cables. I try to remove the cmos battery, hold down power button, do bios recovery, look at bios log which shows no known problem, change different rams and mouth pad. Try everything that is possible without doing hardware soldering. I find that the power jack is good with a multimeter. Also, there is voltage on the mb. I have seen this type of problem in the past, and most of the time I replace the mb. However, I have seen motherboard manufactures and some...

    man, you got to be serious. I can't even stand dual core. Anyway, I tried to repair a 5150 with blinking cursors and now they don't blink anymore. The c chip is fine, but to make sure, I re-soldered it. There were some "flat" chips that got burn, maybe this was the problem. I also think it could be the graphic card because some people reported that it could be damaged due to the heat, but at this point I'm pretty much gave up. What the *** could I did wrong that made the cursors not to blink anymore. Not sure what to tell...
