    Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

      Asus H77 LGA1155 mainboard stopped working with Ivy Bridge CPUs
      by Roman555
      Bad symptoms when Ivy Bridge CPU (3rd-gen 22nm) is installed:
      • Won't boot OS (just blank screen or stucks at asus logo, monitor is turned on) with hangs at debug (post) code A3;
      • USB stick with MS-DOS can be loaded via F8 boot menu;
      • Other OSes won't load - hangs or goes reboot;
      • Postponed for several seconds reaction to Alt-Ctrl-Del, Reset and Power buttons;
      • An operating system starts loading but won't finish if it's left only 1 CPU core in BIOS settings;
      What I've already done and it hasn't helped:
      • Cleared CMOS many times;
      • Flashed different versions of BIOS in a CH341 programmer;
      • Updated

      HP xw9400 hangs on gfx access - which bad caps ?
      by spacemusicdaw
      Hello everyone,
      The operating system often hangs after any graphics operation like scroll/zoom/menu open/button click. It is the same after swapping all parts (CPUs: dual Opteron 2216 or 8435, RAM: 8x1GB or 8x4GB, power supply : 800W or 1000W, graphics card : original Quadro FX 3500 replaced with GeForce 7300 LE to decrease power) one at a time, and trying several operating systems (Windows 7/10, Linux, FreeBSD; 32 and 64 bit versions of all of them). But if the motherboard has been sleeping for months/years, the first few minutes are more stable before it warms up. This seems to come with...

      ThinkPad T14s Gen 1 can't boot any operating system
      by mrfree2ita
      Hi all,

      I'm trying to troubleshoot my Lenovo Thinkpad T14s Gen 1, AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U.

      In practice, everything works fine until I try to boot into an operating system (e.g. I can navigate the BIOS settings). I tried to install Windows 10 from a USB stick, but the laptop reboots a few seconds after showing the Windows logo. I tried booting a Debian 12 live and the laptop restart after a few seconds, I can see the kernel messages coming up on screen and then boom. Similar story with FreeBSD, kernel starts to load, a few messages on the screen and the laptop restarts....

      The 2022 Operating System Thread
      by momaka
      Well first off, Nappy New Year to everyone!

      So what's going on?! - How come we don't have an OS thread for this year? Did everyone just move to using phones? Windows 11 killed everything? Or perhaps now that some of us have the Covid vaccines, I guess M$ is already running in our bodies so we don't really need computers anymore, right? (OK, I probably better not open that can of worms here. )

      Anyways, ya'll know the drill: vote what OS you're running on your "main" PC.

      I know that might be tricky for all of...
