Tried with graphics card in either PCI-e x16 slot (those 2 with green latch), same problem....

The operating system often hangs after any graphics operation like scroll/zoom/menu open/button click. It is the same after swapping all parts (CPUs: dual Opteron 2216 or 8435, RAM: 8x1GB or 8x4GB, power supply : 800W or 1000W, graphics card : original Quadro FX 3500 replaced with GeForce 7300 LE to decrease power) one at a time, and trying several operating systems (Windows 7/10, Linux, FreeBSD; 32 and 64 bit versions of all of them).
