    Windows NT 4.0 SAM Database

I have an PC based security DVR that the company is no longer supporting. The hard drive had a nasty crash and Windows will no longer boot. It shows the Windows NT 4.0 Workstation graphic for a bit before dropping to a blue screen saying the SAM database is corrupt.

With the drive connected to another PC, I am able to access the "repair" folder withing the windows folder, but the setup.log file is missing. I was able to find images of the 3 boot disks, but I have no ERD. The boot disks cannot find the installation on the hard drive, even though the system boots from it.

So what I need to do is either fix the existing installation, or find a way to extract the custom software package and all its drivers to try installing on a new OS such as WinXP. Any idea what I could do? I tried making an ERD, but it complains about an incorrect or missing signature or something like that.

you still might be able to find the software even if the company does not exist, it may just take some looking

I use doubledriver (google it) to be able to backup drivers from other installs but (you can load hives from other external windows registries). you however cannot do this with full software programs.

if its a standalone program, you should be able to do something, but if its not, it needs probably a few files copied to the windows directory and maybe a registered service or two

google the program and see if you can find any alternative downloads. So this person has no install disk? does it require a key?

It's a Radionics V8200 Series DVR. I already talked to the company that bought out the original, and they don't offer any support on it at all. The security key is plugged into the parallel port.

I'll check into that driver program and see where it gets me. The data on the drive seems intact other than the corrupt SAM database. Even the Windows Password Reset program I have said it was corrupt and crashed.

I was able to locate a Windows CD that should work, which I can test tomorrow. Already made an image of the hard drive, so I can experiment at no risk.
